Bumper- Rock rails Opinions

  • Just bought some stuff for jeep but next items are front and rear bumpers and rocker guards. Looking for opinions on brands. I would like a rear bumper with tire carrier and hitch built in. Front able to put a winch on down the road and rockers with round step built in.
So pics or opinions would be great....Thanks

  • 2nd ATOZFABRICATION, Zach is a great guy who's down to earth and will do anything to make the customer happy. And he's a regular guy that wheels every month at Rausch so you can pick up your order from him at the park and save the shipping cost.

  • 3rd that...talking with zach now about some custom sliders/steps for the JKU. he does fantastic work.

  • The Bestop tire carrier seems to work well. It's a tub-mounted system that opens and closes with your tailgate so no need to open anything separately. That leaves you free to pick a bumper design without having to preclude the brands/styles that don't have tire carrier options. Keith_c has one on his TJ so maybe he can chime in.

I like Savvy's front and rear aluminum bumpers - no need to add extra weight if you can help it. They do have aluminum rocker protection too, but it doesn't have a round step like you're looking for. I do recommend their gas tank skid once you are in the market. As strong (or stronger) than a steel skid and only a couple of pounds heavier than the factory tin shield. I haven't personally used their bumpers, but used their rocker guards and gas tank skid and liked them a lot.

Jeeperman also makes a great rear bumper/tire carrier. I bought one years ago and it lived on my Jeep for a long time with a 35" tire before migrating to Erica's TJ with her 35" spare. Still on her Jeep and hasn't sagged at all. It's a "slam shut" design too so no need to carefully latch or thread anything in place when you close it up. The powdercoating took a nosedive after about 3 years but I ended up sandblasting a majority of it off and then just rattle canning it. Seems pretty typical of most powdercoating though so I wouldn't condemn a company purely on that point.

Rokmen also makes a solid front bumper. I bought one when the company was just in startup and he designed it to meet my needs. It came unfinished so no concerns over powdercoating and it was very beefy. Still on Erica's TJ and has a front receiver built in as well to allow for a surf rack when you go the beach.

I had one on the Rubi and it was one of the best purchases I made. I would definitely recommend it for the flexibility it gives in choosing a rear bumper. I like that it also relocates the 3rd brake light. Only issue I had was once I went to a super heavy 37" tire/wheel combo it really wasn't rated for that, although it probably would have been fine.

Also, I had great luck with Rokmen products. Absolutely top quality and they often run specials to include discounted shipping. Very willing to chat and work with you as well.

Realizing you probably want the rear hitch for cargo, just be very careful on your expectations. Towing from a bumper hitch is sketchy at best and the bumper and frame attachment need to be VERY stout to even think about towing with it. Just my 2 cents on that one but I did a lot of towing with mine.
