If you were to make your own, would you also put a step on it? If so, it would not only be easier but would look good if you did the step in 2x3 as opposed to tubing.

Excellent trail report Steve and great pictures from Steve and Chris. GWNF looks like a beautiful place with a ton of great scenery. I will definately have to come next time.

The past two weeks, Turtle and I have been fabbing up a set of bumpers for my Jeep. I started out with a 10' of 2x4x3/16" square tubing, 2x2x3/16" square tubing, a 2x3x3/16" "Turtle" scrape tire carrier. We then cut and boxed off the ends, added two Rokmen shackle mounts to each bumper, Trout Industry mounts, a Rockstomper tire carrier hinge and a Carr-lane 2000 lbs. latch.

We finished the front bumper this past week and installed it.

Yesterday, my hinge finally arrived and today Turtle, Dave, and myself were able to make it look like a tire carrier. All I need to do now is install the rear mounts, pick-up the latch, and paint it up. Here's how it looked at the end of tonight.

Let me know what you guys think.

$500 sounds about right to me. But that also depends on how much you get used, out of a junkyard, and new. Also just b/c you are going to be getting something out of a junkyard doesn't mean its going to be all around cheaper. You have to count the amount of time it takes you to find/yank out/ and pull the part(s).

The cost may sounds outragous, but from my own experience, it is quite possibly the best modification I have completed. Also it is a mod that you personalize and is not the same on any other Jeep.

I like the idea of having a seperate guide run also, with just a few people. Just throwing some dates out there but I was looking to go up Saturday the 25 to paragon with a couple people and could help out with spotting and leading skills if anyone is interested......

I second Bob Supplee as to where to get a lift. His prices are well below everyone else and shipping is included in the prices. I have placed about 10 orders with him and all of them have been here in a couple days and exactly what I ordered.

As far as a 2" suspension lift goes......what size tire do you wish to run and do you plan on ever going bigger?

If you go 2", I am pretty sure the only lift Bob carries is the Tera 2T.

I was going to go with that lift initially but decided to go with the Tera 3T instead.

That's looks great Dennis. Did you fab that yourself?

Also, just an opinion, but putting the spare up there may raise your center of gravity.

Looks great Keith! I really like how clean the installation is under the hood. I like the idea of removing the ABS tray. I like how the fittings are big and strong (1/2" and galvanized fittings).

Quick question.... is that the Kilby oil filter and if so is the drain a metal fitting?

I've run across a couple waterproofing write ups but nothing to do something like the first video. Waterproofing is especially difficult with a TJ (assuming that is what you have) b/c of all of the electronics and a more complex dash.

If you are into deep water, the best thing would be a snorkel. Then move all of the breather hoses as high as possible. I have also read about siliconing up the electronics under the hood.

I am pretty sure Stu Olsen's website had a waterproofing write-up and Rockcrawler.

Well....let me start by saying this was one of the most interesting wheeling trips yet. Like Andrew said we split off into two groups on Saturday. In my group there was Paul (Wanderlust), Tom (INMTom), Ken (Ken), Greg (Jeepers), Stetson (dmaster), along with assorted spouses, girlfriends, siblings, and parents, we also had Lee and Chris from BMJA. We started out on trail 1 (a blue). Everyone made it through the crazy off-camber situation just fine, then Stetson, Greg, Tom and Ken decided to try the gully with seems to have gotten steeper on the exit. Everyone manage to make easy work of that and then Ken started up. He got most of the way up and stopped at a nice angle just prior to the top. With some crafty strapping from the side and the front, he made it up just fine. From there we started to head down Pole line when we came up on this mud hole that said it was 5 ft deep. Everyone took the bypass except Greg (He wanted a Greg's Mud Hole at RC too) We had was going good up until the middle. He just kept digging, so he backed out of it. However, when he started to go to the bypass his tranny decided it didn't want to go into any gear. After some wrenching, he determined it was terminal (don't worry Greg, the 36's will come someday).
Tom straped Greg back to the trailer with me keeping them from being rear-ended on the main roads. From there we met up with the rest of the group at Crawler Ridge and Andrew led all of us through trail 12 for the rest of the day.

Sunday turned out to be a gorgous day. The remaining Deja members decided to stay together in our own group for this day. In this group there was Artie (JeepinArtie), Brain (Mopartech), Paul (Wanderlust), Tom (INMTom), Ken (Ken), Ian (Clendaniel), and Artie's friend Mike. We started out on L3 which is a blue and then started on U3. I then decided to make a right into Trail 6 which is a black. Brain and Ian took the extreme route with some body damage while the rest of us took the less extreme route. Ian ran into some issues with a rock meeting the sideway of his tire. After getting the spare on we realized it didn't have much air in it and we just needed to get him over this one obstacle and then I could air that one up a little. Well, easier said than done. That tire lost its bead. After some finagling with a ratchet strap and some OBA we decided to swap that tire for Artie's spare (33" swamper) onto Ian's MJ (35" tires). This got him off the trail and we decided to break for lunch so that I could fix my OBA (long story) and we could get the bead back on Ian's tire.
Well......the bead didn't want to go on no matter what we did......so.....last resort (do not try this at home) was to try some of Brian's "2+2" to use as ether on the bead and light it on fire to put the bead back on. Well, Ian sprayed down the bead, Paul readied the fire extinguisher, and all of us (including some dirt bikers) watched on from a safe spot. Ian lit the fluid and pop...the tire flew up in the air a foot or so landed back on the bed of the truck and the bead was back on, the tire was on fire, but the bead was back on. Brian killed the fire with the extinguisher and we got the tire back on. (Nothing better than air tools and lighter fluid on the trail) From there we hit Trail 15 (bypassing the mud hole) and onto trail 13. This trail is rated blue but most of it is black. From there we hit 11 to H to Pole Line to trail C. A very exciting day of wheeling.

Thanks to everyone for making this a great trip. Thanks also for trusting me a your guide. You guys were great to lead and made it very interesting and exciting. I can't wait for the next trip

Oh, pictures that my dad took (only about 100 this time) will be up sometime this week.

I have a small propane grill and can bring up some burgers and rolls and of course Ketchup. Last time we grilled in the Comfort Inn parking lot. Probably not the best idea but it worked. Also we could grill by the entrance of RC where the RVs and trailers park at the top of the hill where Greg will be.

Just throwing out options, let me know what everyone thinks

    -Chris

Another issue is food for Saturday night. I know at the meeting the majority of people coming this weekend did not sign up and send their money in time for the Pig Roast. For those that didn't (like myself) would you like to grill up some burgers like last time???

    Let me know

    -Chris

    Quote from "wanderlust"

New poll idea: Is Chris H. really someone we want leading a group of people through the woods?

Hey now! This will be my 4th time at RC and my 3rd time leading. I do have a better record at RC too as far as getting lost goes. Paragon is another story.

    -Chris

Stetson - So far I do not think that anyone is coming up Saturday morning (at least those that have signed up) However, you should still come on Saturday. Directions are pretty straight forward. 95 to 476 to 78 to 501 to 81 to Tremont. Straightforward  :sniffle: . That's the route I have mapped out so far for myself. There are numerous ways up there some are straight up through the back roads or all main roads. Or go to http://www.rauschcreekoffroadpark.org/home.asp
    and there are directions there.

Ed - You have a PM.
