I've got a set. They should be good enough to get him through inspection.
Cool. What are you looking to get for them?

I am in search of a set of stock (size) YJ tires and wheels for my grandfather. He failed inspection due to his tires sticking out to far.
My JK leaks on the passenger side bottom of the door. It gets my carpet wet and must be from a torn seal. I think Im just going to rip out the carpet and Monstaline it.
I would. I'm a bit out of shape but it will still be fun.
I cant wait. This is going to bring JFJ to the next level!

That sucks. I like Carman Jeep they have great customer service
If they do go ifs maybe they will be smart and have a solid axle option. But I bet they will make an option like that only for the rubicon.
I had a 2010 and it burned a quart every 1000 miles and the dealership tried telling me that was considered acceptable. Had trans issues too when I first purchased. 5 speed would pop out of first gear pulling away. Some other issues but most of the problem was dealing with the service department.
I would have to amend Jerry's post to say that it is rare for an engine to burn that much oil.
I got the same story that 1qt for 1k miles was "normal". In all of the vehicles that i've had to include my current JK; Iv'e never had an engine burn 1qt of oil in 1K miles. In fact i've never had any engine other than my 2008 JK burn any amount of oil that was noticeable.
The JK holds 6qt of oil. I found out the hard way and learned a valuable lesson about checking oil on a regular basis. After I got my 2008 JK I drove it about 3000 miles. One day my oil light came on and went off. This happened a few times. With the engine hot and running I pulled the dip stick and it was bone dry! I changed the oil and only had about 3qt of oil. That means that I was running half the oil that is needed. I took it to the dealer and got the "its normal" story. You mean to tell me that the engine was burning half the oil in the pan during the normal oil change interval. I got tired of pouring oil into that engine so I traded it for my current JK and guess what my 3.6L does not burn any oil.
To the OP if looking for a JK I would tend to look for a 2012+. That LJ sounds good to though and would save some money over a 2012+
others (rare) almost 2 quarts.
My 2008 JKU burnt 1qt for every 800-1000 miles. That's why I traded it in.

I just got these in 35s and love them so far!
Kids are going to be stupid regardless of what they drive. I'd rather it be a slow vehicle than a fast one. That way if he does something dumb the chances are better that it will be at low speed and you'll find him stuck in the mud instead of wrapped around a pole.
This is the main point. Kids are going to be dumb regardless of what they are driving. I see no issue with getting him a Wrangler as his first vehicle. If he is like most teens they will push the limits of their vehicles better to have him push it in a mud puddle than on route 1 at 140 mph. I would say a TJ or a JK would be the best bet. I know for a fact that my JK has come through with the traction control for me on snowy and wet streets. If safety is the main goal it would be better to have something that has traction control and/or airbags. But regardless of the vehicle he needs to be taught to respect the power and responsibility. Smart and safe driving are key.
The bumper looks good. Are you planning on adding a winch?
Thanks for such a warm welcome everyone!! Actually, I could have used some help this weekend. We attempted to replace the front bumper but couldn't get the bolts off. Between me and my fiance, it was a laughable attempt. My first mod was a fail. So I went with plan B and took it to Pep Boys and had them do the install. In the end, im happy with it though!! Pics to come when im not fussing with this phone.
Pep
Installs never seem to go as planned. I would say to post up here if you need help instead of going to Pepboys I wouldn't trust them to look at my Jeep let alone work on it.
Can't wait to see the pics.
welcome
I first heard about them about a year ago. I have not bought anything from them but I get mailings and emails. I check them out when looking for new parts. I also have met some of the guys at the Pine Barrens.
Thanks for the input. FWIW, went the the RockHard one and I'll be installing it before the ride on the 22nd.
That's the one I have. It works well
Whites look nice until they get shredded on the rocks or sanded at the beach.
That is a valid point. I do know keeping them white will take work. With surf fishing and trips to RC Bleach White will me my new best friend.
I always liked the white letters too. Never understood why people get them mounted in.
I guess some don't want to keep up with cleaning the letters to keep them white. To me though I will scrub for a little bit to have the white letters. My Jeep is all black (other than the silver decals) I think the white on the tires helps to break up the all the black.
