My battery has two sets of posts; one set used solely for the winch. I'm wondering if the ground post on the battery is bad, if the relays are bad, or if it's something else.

If you have a dual post battery make sure your winch is hooked to the top posts. That’s all I got

x2 I was always told not to use the side posts (although I'm bad at listening and am guilty of temp using them on occasion) for high-draw accessories like winches as the leads are smaller and prone to burning out. I'd test with some jumper cables or by moving the winch leads to the top posts and retest if you are using the sides. If not it sounds like you're into testing relays....a power probe makes that much easier from experience but a simple jumper wire to the coil lead on the solenoid can suffice.

I hear great things about Duratracs... but no personal experience with them.

Duratracs have been my hands down favorite AT I've ran. Ran BFG A/T's in the past (both orig and KO2 versions) and liked them but was blown away with the overall performance of the duratracs we had on our old WJ. Wear was slightly higher than what I remember from the BFGs but it was a good tradeoff IMHO.

All of the roadkill, dirt everyday and hotrod garage are now available to watch on Motortrend.com for free. You will still have to wait a month for the new episodes if you don’t pay for a subscription. All of the old roadkill content will stay on YouTube and old episodes are still able to be watched on velocity. While they are making the transition they are offering motortrend on demand for $2.99 a month. I think it’s $4.99 normally. It blows but at some point someone had to make money of the shows. Follow Finegan and frieburger on fb and they explains a lot of what’s happening.

One correction: it's two months until they're release for free now.

For giggles I tried to watch one last weekend via the MTOD website and it was frustrating...it randomly cuts to ads that they've peppered in the videos and I wasn't able to get casting to my tivo (or natively to my chromecast) to work. The ads are somewhat understandable as they're trying to make up revenue, it's just a PITA that it suddenly cuts instead of a 'normal' commercial break. The casting is a non-starter, though....I don't want to watch on my phone or a computer, I want to send it to my TV which is easy on youtube both using my phone or a laptop.

Sweet. Good to see Andrew's Jeep is still getting used....28K of the hardest miles around. I wouldn't say 'no more bluej', though, it's more that bluej's growing up!

I have just 2 of these in my garage and they are bright as all get out!! I'm going to be adding 2 more to the backside of the garage to replace an older flourescent fixture in the near future. Cheap and bright LEDs fill the bill in my book!
    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Li…N-40K-80CRI-DNA/301158095

30x50 pole barn's gonna need a few more than 2. I was planning on going w/ the 4' Costco LED units, they seem to get decent reviews over on garagejournal. I bought 2 to test and think my plan of 16 in the main shop should work perfect. Issue is mainly running the new circuits...16' to the bottom of the trusses. My shop was setup as a horse barn when we bought the place so it has stall lights along the walls and 2x 8' fluorescents.

John, you can convert your existing housings to accept LED bulbs if you want. My old housings were crappy flickering/buzzing T12s and as the ballasts died I would convert them to take LED bulbs (Amazon). Didn't have to replace the housings and they are amazingly bright.

Yup, did the same in our laundry room. Just be careful, the ones I got from Lowes royally sucked and didn't put out much light at all even after bypassing the ballast (they we supposed to work either with the ballast or direct wired). I ended up getting these from Amazon and was 100% happy.

Looooong to-do list here...divided into short and longer term

    Immediate tasks:

    • Finish brake replumbing work on CJ10
    • Replace the damn radiator AGAIN in the JK....should be warranty, was just replaced last Jan/Feb
    • Fix xfer case shifter on CJ10...need to source replacement for ball joint on twin sticks
    • Finish wiring cleanup work on CJ10 (Install ignition lock, reroute wiring through grommeted holes in FW vs through floor, loom/tape everything, convert remaining connections to weatherpack)
    • Redo intake and downpipe on CJ10 (replumb intake w/ 4" getting rid of unnecessary adapters/couplers, add heat shield for air filter, add prefilter on the 6637 filter, hardmount exhaust/lower d/p and add flex in middle to eliminate vibes, wrap d/p, add turbo blanket)
    • Clean up yellow TJ for possible sale in spring (fix leaky ARB o-ring, remove winch, give flares, frame, bumpers, rockers a fresh coat of paint)
    • Install front swaybar on CJ10
    • C-notch crossmember on CJ10 to allow driveshaft clearance on full compression
    • Add power/lights in shop to facilitate working on these damn projects

    Longer term:

    • Interior upholstery cleanup/redo on CJ10
    • Relocate doors on shop/convert sliding doors to roll-up
    • Concrete, concrete, concrete....pour shop floor to facilitate working and allow lift install
    • Install the lift currently laying on the dirt floor
    • Finish suspension/steering re-do on tan TJ
    • Redo rear of cage on tan TJ to repair damage and allow rear seat
    • Convert CJ10 rear suspension to link/airbag
    • Move CJ10 fuel tank and batteries to be frame mounted to allow removal of bed box
    • Convert bed on CJ10 to dump bed. Sandblast, rust repair, and paint/bedline at same time

Thankfully, I think that's only on the Sport... Supposedly the Sahara and Rubicon come with something like a plastic version of the steel (AEV style) bumper.

Yeah, I just spec'd a Rubi w/ the steel bumper group and body-color flares and it looked much better IMHO....only downside was that it was a $50k Jeep! (49,965 to be exact)

I did have issues in a previous house....which was interesting as our property, while 'inside' the development, was not technically part of it. Our situation was a bit different as I had no deed restrictions on our property while the remainder of the development did (much to the chagrin of the HOA). I had a visit from code enforcement and a letter from the HOA due to a complaint re my trailer and was able to speak with her at length on the issue. Essentially she told me that she was required to come out as there was a complaint however I was compliant so there was no issue. I followed up later with an attorney friend who told me that since the HOA had not been enforcing the restrictions for an extended period even if we did have restrictions on our property that it would be difficult/impossible for them. As others have said, good luck. It's one of the many reasons I'll never buy a deed restricted anything....too many nosy-neighbor nimby's out there.

Take 3....it turns out there is an all electric version coming in addition to the PHEV. https://www.quadratec.com/c/bl…ll-electric-wrangler-2020

I think they're confusing the verbiage....reading that whole blog post seems to imply a 'range extender' which would still be a PHEV or EREV like my Volt, not a 'true' EV. Either way it's pretty interesting and they have some good info that the Pacifica PHEV has a 33mi range with a 16kWh pack. Figure that's about half of my Volt which has ~14kWh useable and is rated at 53mi.

    --Ian

I watched the live Quadratec feed, like Kuntryboy said the only thing I really don't like is the front turn signals (really don't like those) and the tail lights (better than the Renegade but still fugly). Does it have angel eyes/led circle on the head lights? If so I don't like that either. On other cars it's cool but not on the Wrangler.

They announced an all electric model for 2020 which I think was breaking news, I don't think I heard that before. The torque from an electric motor should be really interesting offroad. Rausch Creek is gonna need some charging stations lol.

Not to be picky but they announced a PHEV, not an all-electric EV....two different things.

I'm wondering how fast batteries would get drained down off road. Rocks and thick mud would require a heavier load to spin the tires. (not to mention running larger tires to begin with)

Depending on the size of the battery pack likely fairly quickly. I found the idea of a PHEV wrangler pretty intriguing as my commuter is a gen2 volt and for DD duties I'm digging the electrics. Keep in mind that the 4cyl is already going to be hybrid-ized from the start, just not plugin. Note that once the pack is exhausted the plugin version will likely function like a normal hybrid and the electric motor will still be available to assist but the energy will come from the ICE and regen. To compare my volt averages around 4mi/kwh in mixed driving and is fairly sensitive to rolling resistance, speed, and temp...I'd bet a brick on wheels with even AT's would be in the 2-3range. The rating is 53mi on the 14kwh of usable power (Chevy doesn't allow you to fully use the pack to lengthen the lifespan) but I've seen from 40-70mi depending on conditions, hvac use, etc. If they offered a similar range I'd trade in a heartbeat but I suspect it'll be similar to other PHEV's with only a 20-ish mi range.

    --Ian

There are a few budget boosts out there for 200-300 that are all basically the same spacer setup, personally I'd go with what's the best price-wise. I believe most of the kits are the same as for the WK. As far as body lifts, the Commander is a unibody so that's a no-go.

    --Ian

So any TJ case would work? I've found plenty of XJ and YJ cases, any chance those would substitute?

    Thanks

Not sure on the YJ variant but I believe an XJ case is clocked slightly differently (or it may just be the pattern on the trans...my mind is going in my old age).
