So the leaking for 50,000 miles atleast steering box is gone, just finished replacing it with one that I picked up from mferrari that was in alot better shape, took it for a ride after doing the full install, bleeding the air out of the box, etc and WOW the steering is so much tighter. BUT a problem I discovered before replacing the box that we were just dealing with was this clunk while steering, especially heard when doing a three point turn for example, it clunks once or twice.
This clunk, or slip as I will now call it acts this way while driving: The steering wheel may be at 1 o clock slightly, but if i jerk the wheel to the left to say 11 o clock, when the steering comes center again, shazamm its at 12 o clock again (insert clunk noise/slip during that right to left jerk of the wheel). When making a 90 degree right turn from a stop sign say in second gear speed theres a slip, and it almost doesnt react but then grabs again and it comes around, I feel like whats happening is the pitman arm is skipping a tooth (clunk noise) so during that sliding to another tooth is when there is that lack of reaction of the steering, but after examining the pitman arm when doing the steering box and looking at the teeth on the steering box, all looked well, none were chipped.
So why am I experiencing this slip/clunk/offset steering wheel that resets itself if i jerk the steering from 1 o clock back to 10 o clock and recenters at 12 o clock.
Thanks for any upcoming advice/wisdom/questions ahead of time.
