Paint Job Question

Are the areas rusted through or is the paint just bubbled up?

You'll need to remove the flare, grind or cut the rust out and then have a patch metal peice welded (or epoxied) in. Get some rock rails or something that will cover that area.

I bet Damutt, or Mopartech could grind out the rust and weld in the metal patches. Then all you'd have to do is the Bondo work to cover up and level out the area. That's not hard to do. It just takes a lot of sanding. In place of welding, you can also pop rivet and epoxy the patch metal in place.

Since the color of your Jeep is black (it is black right?) you might try rattle canning the area with Krylon or Rustoleum. You could take the opportunity to design som cool graphic down there in another color which would hide spots even more.

excuse me for jumping in but on the same topic (sort of) is having rust cut out expensive. Im between a rock and a hard place as to what to do in terms of dumping cash into my Jeep. I have a bit of rust, rsuted through. its an 88 yj

Yeah, it will cost you. How much depends on where it is. If you have a lot you might consider just buying another tub. I've patched mine a bunch since I couldn't justify buying a new tub if I plan on going wheeling. That was before I realized I'd have no time to go wheeling anyway.

I work at and my dad owns a bodyshop. We've done our share of Jeep rust and restored a couple for previous customers...
