Deja Trail Ride to Paragon - Sunday February 18th

  • I think I heard more snow coming too

If paragon is out due to conditions

    How about Rausch Creek?

Rausch Creek is right in the heart of the problems on I78 if I'm not mistaken. There was a 50 mile back up where people have been stranded. This morning they had the east bound opened up again but not the west.

  • As long as either park is open I'm down for the ride, I don't have to worry about towing there. We only need two vehicles and I've been to Paragon enough times to be comfortable leading if necessary, but I've only been to RC once.

  • I thanked "Coachtazman" on the Paragon site for the report and asked for an update tomorrow afternoon. That should give us enough time to make our individual decisions.

  • Paragon, right? A friend of mine is driving down from Syracuse and he called around 9:00 a.m. from the PA turnpike at Quakertown. When he left, around 5:30, I-80 was still closed. I still plan to ride unless I get some adverse news from one of the locals in Hazleton. If we do this I would like to have at least 3 Jeeps, one with a winch, lots of tow straps, and whatever common sense we have left. By the end of the day (Sat) whoever is going needs to post up and make sure we all pm our cell phone numbers to those in that group.

  • You could pick up Rt. 309 and take it into Hazleton. Then cross OVER Rt. 81 on the road the Exxon is on.

I've been on that road outside of Jim Thorpe with the big hills (Rt. 93) in the winter before while towing. It can be a scary ride. :o

If you decide to bypass Jim Thorpe, you would take the Allentown exit from the Blue Route (Rt. 22 East) and pick up Rt. 309 north which will be about ½ mile on the left side. That might be a bit too rural but it's a pretty ride.

  • I was just reading on the BMJA board that the back roads to Paragon and RC are not the best right now and that in that area they have 12" of snow and ice that is solid enough to support vehicles.

Also I-81 is still shut down.

Needless to say, I am not chancing it this weekend.

Those that do plan on going, as Randy said, post up that you are and either include your cell # in the thread or PM those that are also going.

    Thanks

  • I read your post. I'll see you in the morning. Fran was going to go up to Pine Grove tonight and run up to Paragon in the a.m.. Maybe he'll give us a road report later tonight.

ps. I just read a post on the Paragon site from Tammy in Pottsville that as of 4:30 today both I-81 and I-80 are open.
