  • I'd say it's all in the jeep. I have a 4 Cly. in my 84 Cj and love it. Lack of power, heck no. I have beat a few at the stop light with 302's.! Now, they were driving trucks, not stangs. She purrs along @ 70 w/ no problem! So power is not an issued. I would even think that the it would be easier to control when off roading. It is also better on gas. Getting about 30 in my Cj. But then again, all depends on how you drive them. My 360 eagle couldn't get out of it's own way! So try it out. If you don't like it don't get it. If it's cheap enough, get it and drop whatever you want in it. There are enough jeepahallics on here that can help you with a swap. Good luck either way.

so im guessing it has nos and a turbo

  • 27.1 MPG Down hill with a good tail wind ! Even when I had a 4 cyl YJ, I at best got was around 20mpg and that was with FI. How do you calculate? Standard is to top off you tank, note milage, drive, top off tank again, and divide total#miles/total#gallons.

That is how I calculate mine. If anyone is interested I have a spread sheet that I created that also calculates Cost/Mile and other cool figures. I created it when I was driving all over the state as a consultant. I wanted to make sure I wasn't loosing money through business expenses.

  • thats how I did it too. I guess I'm just a good driver. My drivers Ed class was big on safety and gas cautious. I don't hit the brake as much. Try it and you'll see. I use the one car following distance and when the car in front hits the brakes, I just let off the gas. Most of the time you don't even have to hit the brakes unless it's a stop light. This is called nuisance braking. You use more fuel everytime you touch the brake! Waste a hell of a lot of gas by doing that. Then, if I am at a long light and know it's a long one, I turn the A/C or heat down. This burns unnecessary gas as well. (no I don't have A/C in the Cj) When your travelling a long haul and your coming up to a red light, don't floor it to try and beat it, let off the gas a little and if it's yellow procede thur and you won't burn any extra gas. When you take off at a light, take off slowly. Try this, and I bet I'll beat you in the bet that you'll gain an extra five MPG at least! I do it with my work truck and the same truck, my pop gets 8 to 10 MPG and I get 16 to 18 in a Ford 250 Van with a 351! that's almost 50% difference! It's not rocket science. Just common sense. Again, don't take my word for it. you follow to close, take off fast, and etc. your burning unnecessary fuel. that's just my .02.

  • Sounds like your pop is better at math then you. I drive the same van for work and have NEVER gotten above 10 or 11 miles per gallon. Trust me I don't drive crazy in my van either. Following the same rules you do I don't even get close to 16 or 18. I think your calculator is broken
