Jeep mechanic up North

  • I received the below from another forum I'm on and figured I'd post up here for those of you up North who might be able to give a recommendation.

I remember seeing a while ago that someone was affliated with the Jeep Association, just couldn't remember who. My DH has a Grand Cherokee and lately it's turned into a huge money pit. (It's a '97) Can you recommend someone 'honest' to bring it to besides the dealer? Newark Jeep has been jerking us around. This last time the car was in the shop for 7 days. When we went to pick it up there was still something wrong with it. Now my DH is going to try and fix it himself because he knows what it is. But I have a feeling that the dealer is not on the 'up and up' if you know what I mean.

It's very frustrating because we can't afford a new car right now and we just need to get through the winter with it. DH works in construction and gets laid off in the winter!!

Any insight that you can give us would be appreciated!!

  • Holly Oak would be able to fix it.

  • I took mine to Pete's Garage. They came highly recommended to me and I was very pleased. Since then my brother took his Camaro and friend took his Jeep and both where also very pleased. He is also very knowlegable about Jeep off-roading and setting up a Jeep properly to do so. Tell him I recommended you.

  • Sevy's Garage on Rt. 273 (Christiana Road) has ALWAYS done right by me. I highly recommend them.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting my question on your site. My DH went by Pete's Garage today and he really helped us out with the jeep. The dealer had left a plug undone when they put the new computer in and it was causing the check engine light to come on. He looked at and fixed it for no charge! The jeep stil needs a ton of work so Pete's our man from now on!!

I'm going to give him a shout out on our site here since he's such a good guy!

  • What's a "DH"?

  • Okay, I have just been corrected that it was a "Coolant sensor bad" light, not the check engine light :)
They are very greatful for the honest work and quick fix on it. They are going to get full diagnostics run there to get it running and figure out what the stealership couldn't.

    Thanks!!!
