Pics from Rausch over the Weekend, Brrrrrr....

  • Well it was certainly cold up there when i arrived at 7:45 to Rausch Creek on the 23rd. Just an early Christmas present to myself i guess. I had some brand spankin' new 35" MTR's under my ZJ and i wanted to test them out. I didn't know it had been snowing most of the week up there though. So i was in for an icy surprise up there. The fog was horrible in the morning. I couldn't see more than 2 white lines in front of me which is about what, 10 feet? The fog barely lifted all day so it was what you could say a Sleepy Hollow kind of atmosphere being there were only 2 other vehicles with me and 2 other groups in the WHOLE park. Anyway. Here are a few pictures.

The other Grand with me about 4.5" lift and 33's

The BIG old Dodge Power Wagon that came with us with a turbo cummins in it and some nice size lift and 35's. He came in handy later.

    Frozen over Snakebite

We thought about the Quarry, but it was just complete ice and we never would have made it back up.

This is the Group back at the office around 2pm because of what happened in the following video.

That's me on commentary. Just a heads up, the guy in the Grand said prior to going in "i've done this hole a dozen times and its not that deep its a cake walk" so we volunteered him to do it first. That's also why i was yelling for it to break. Anyway. Hope you enjoyed the stupidity.

  • 4 out of 6 cylinders filled with water after pulling the plugs out. They towed it back home to take the head off and clean it out. So i think it will be ok after some fluid changes. The weather was really funny because it kept going from about 40 and raining to 55 to 32 to 50 and raining to 60 and windy to 40 and windy and back and forth all day. Really weird weather.

  • I don't think an hour worth of recovery would have been exciting. Just think of what a jeep would look like with that big Dodge pulling it while chucks of ice are breaking up and getting pushed underneath of the axles. Then finally the Jeep emerged onto the shore and we popped the hood.

  • Haha, i was yelling for it to break because he said it wasn't that deep, maybe waist high. So i wanted to see him do an icy water crossing and we would follow him. But clearly it didn't turn out that way.
