Soft Doors w/ Halftop

  • When I purchased my '92 Jeep Wrangler it came with a Bestop Halftop installed. With the colder months looming I decided recently to purchase some doors capable of using upper door halves. I purchased the Bestop 2 Peice Soft Doors, but best what I can tell they don't fit properly. Even after adjusting all I can with the doors, the doors appear to sit over the Halftop and are very difficult to close nor do they seal very well at all up top. I've attached some pictures. If anybody could at least tell me if these are how they're supposed to look I'd appreciate it. Any help rectifying the situation will also be appreciated.

  • I have the same doors for my TJ, and a Bestop Supertop. You need to try and make a better seal with the top over the door surround bars. And really overall, it doesn't look like the top is fitting well so you should try to fix that. You may also need to bend the door uppers in towards the cab more. Mine work fine and the only time the seal is shaky is over 65 mph when the doors vibrate a little. However, you may be unable to do much better with the Halftop as it doesn't have the support the Supertop does.

  • Thanks for the reply. Yeah. The top wasn't put on anywhere near correct when I bought the vehicle and I've been fixing it as I see issues, but I'm starting to think I have to take the whole thing apart. :bang: I'll give what you said a shot.

If anybody has any more suggestions or, better yet, pictures of that top with those doors on a YJ I'd appreciate it!

  • You should be able to adjust the doors on the inside framing of them, not really sure if that would fix it though. I would have to see it in person but yeah bending them like Quantum said might work also. Goodluck....don't you love YJ's? :bang:

  • Even with my steel frames and full doors my bestop trektop didn't sela well... until i added some padding around the interior area where the doors meet the top. Just ended up being some stirps of A/C window unit padding from HD and it sealed up very nice.

The fact that its a YJ doesn't help either.

The bending the uppers trick should help a bit.

  • It's not great, but I bent the upper doors slightly and got a pretty decent seal. It's not perfect, but will do for when it rains and snows.
