JKU X 4wd conversion

  • Hello everyone.

Im starting to gather parts for this conversion that i want to do on this JKU. Thus far i already found a 241 t-case for 750 shipped and I've been patiently browsing for a Front Dana 30 and so far the best I have found is this http://moparonlineparts.com/repair-parts.php?cPath=25_28_270 (tho I dont know if that is the actual complete assembly including the drive axle)

What I dont know is since im running 33" tires already, would i have to regear both axles right away or can it be done later if I start doing heavier aplications?

As of now I can get the Dana 30 Assy already geared to match the 3.21 D44 that the JKU X comes stock with, For now i accept the 3.21 ratio since all I do right now is surf fishing, not much needed for that... But later on I would prolly gear up.

Also i would appreciate any input as far as the Swap goes. I do not need anyone telling me that I should sell it and buy a 4x4. I bought it for very cheap and I am very interested in doing the swap since I like doing stuff like this. For now what I know is:

    new T-Case and adapter
    new Tailshaft
    new Axle
    New driveshafts
    not sure about suspension yet...

I thank anyone for any input in advance... It is always much appeciated!

If larger tires is in your plan, I'd suggest that you get the gearing done now. Find the front D30 or D44 with the gear you need and get the rear D44 regeared to match it.

Yeah I was looking around and Mopar has the dana 30 with 3.21 at $1,518 and the 4.10 at $1,420,
I might as well get the 4.10 and regear the rear. Still looking for a used axle but that one new for that price aint bad.

Yeah I was reading that one http://www.jkowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61287 but I have not found an axle for $150 like he did... he got a hell of a deal on that... Thats why i want to make sure and try to see if i can find one cheap.

  • I'm waiting for cj5.com to respond it seems they have many jeep parts up there.

He does, but from my experience with his prices you might as well pay retail at a dealer and get brand new stuff.
Try http://www.daveysjeeps.com/ He's in Salem, OH so its a ride but much better prices.

  • I tried Davey, I can get the tcase from him fit 750 shipped... idk how much if I pick it up

Looks like from Dove to Salem OH is a little over 7 hrs each way. May be worth the trip if you can get all the pieces you need in one trip. Oh and if you pick up from Daveys Jeeps call and make sure the parts you need are pulled before you make the trip.

  • In all Honesty, I can't see this making any sense at all. First I did not know you could even buy a 2wd JK.. That said, and if I understand it , you want to convert a 2wd to a 4wd. My advice.... don't do it. Go sell what you have and buy a Jeep with 4wd. The additional cost will be less then buying all the parts and doing the Job yourself or paying someone to do it. Perhaps upgrade to a Rubi. No matter how well you plan, the done deal cost will be higher than expected. Hell stop by a dealer and work up a deal on a shiny new JK and a trade in. My 2 cents.

  • only way to make this worth it is to be putting in aftermarket non oem parts. You know stuff you would have to sell for near nothing when upgrading to a stak/atlas box and 44/60 or 60/60.

If you are set on putting in stock junk just sell it for a stock 4wd JKU

You are about 4 years too late for this

  • You guys don't realize how retarded high they still sell JKs, I got it on a deal just because of the fact that its 2wd.

To put it mildly... if I spend 6K on the swap, I still paid less than a 4x4 JKU. Now im absolutely sure I can do it for less than 3K, the question is how low can I go by getting items around here.

  • I just replaced my stock t case with a 4 to 1 ratio the stock one is sitting under my work bench. it's out of a 2010 jku sport & has 26,000 miles on it. if you want it & puck it up i'll let you have it for $500 , i'm in bucks county Pa. I also have a front drive shaft & a lot front end farts all stock with about 4000 miles on them. I also have 5 stock tires on 17"rims same miles

  • I've been calling salvage yards but most of them are trying to sell these danas for more than new lol... its retarded, patiently looking tho lol

  • So I found this dana 44 built housing for $700 I browsed around and it seems fair considering how getting the other parts used would be easy. Price after finishing the axle would be more than reasonable once I have a housing since a lot of people sell differential parts.
