I have an 89 Comanche that idles very high once it’s warmed up. I’ve cleaned the grounds, adjusted the TPS and cleaned the throttle body. I haven’t found any vacuum leaks but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have one. Does anyone have any experience with a high idle in a renix era 4.0? I’m lost.
89 Comanche high idle

its almost always a vacuum leak. May be the intake gasket itself. When it gets warm and expands there is an issue. Also the coolant sensor can also cause a high idle. If its not reading it it puts the motor in a warm up mode. When the coolant gets hot maybe the sensor drops off?

Usually TPS or Vacuum leak. When you rev it to WOT does
it return to normal idle for a short time? -
Thanks. They have a smoke machine at work I’m gonna ask to borrow it. I’ll have to pay more attention to what it does after I rev it. If I can’t find a vacuum leak will put a coolant sensor on it. Thanks for the input!

the vacuum leak may be around one of the sensors on the throttle body. Also there is a idle air control on the tb. If this sticks open it can high idle. u may want to pull the tb and sensors for a good cleaning.

Thanks I’ll try that out. I haven’t even looked at that thing in weeks. I’ve spent all my free time trying to save my transmission in my 4Runner. Now I have a bunch of time and money in it and my efforts were pointless. It needs a trans. Not to say Jeeps don’t have trans problems but I’ve had 11 different Jeeps and never had a trans problem!!!
