I think we've been using FRS actually, but maybe they are GMRS and I'm just radio-illiterate. TheDarkSide correct me if I'm wrong.

They share a band of frequencies, so you can pickup FRS on GMRS. GMRS can have higher wattage, has more stations and can utilize repeaters….think of it as HAM for dummies (but requires a FCC license (no test)

I have the uV 9g Handheld. Wasn’t sure if a higher wattage was needed or if the handheld is enough for rides.

within a group, hand held is fine. if we split into multiple groups, then higher wattage would be an advantage for group to group communication
