Jeep Hardtop Hoist or Removal Lift?

  • Hi, I'm new to the forum and just purchased a 23 Jeep Willys Unlimited hardtop. I'm looking for an easier way to remove the hardtop with either a hoist in my garage or a portable lift. What would you suggest? I'm in the Millsboro area and if anyone likes the hoist, do you know an installer that's reasonable? Thanks in advance for all suggestions.

  • I added the topsy brackets to my hardtop. I installed a hoist and it’s pretty easy to take off. Honestly if I did it again, I’d just use 4 ratchet straps and Eye hooks i stead of dealing with the hoist. The topsy brackets are a game changer for the rear. https://topsyproducts.com/collections/jl-hoist-brackets-kits

  • I tried the hoist option and for me it was too cumbersome with how tight my garage is. I ended up going with the RollnJack (https://a.co/d/7VXZCMy). Its pricey but much more convenient in my opinion and can be broken down and thrown in the trunk if you wanted to take the hardtop off away from home.

  • Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your new Jeep! A garage hoist is definitely a popular choice for hardtop removal. The Harken Hoister or Lange Originals Hoist-A-Top are two of the more common systems that Jeep owners love—they're simple to install and use, allowing you to lift and store the top right in your garage.

If you're looking for something more portable, there are hardtop lift carts, like the Lange Crank Hoist, that allow you to move the top around easily without needing a permanent setup. As for installers, you might want to ask local Jeep clubs or off-road shops in the Millsboro area—they often know folks who can install hoists at a reasonable price. Enjoy your Jeep!
