Radio replacement help.

  • Ya can’t search radio, all you get is CB radio stuff.

need to upgrade the radio in the wifeys jeep. Was looking at the stinger ones are they worth it? Do they work? Or should I just grab a pioneer double din and call it a day?

  • The Stinger radios have a lot of fans, there have been a few bad reviews but I think generally positive. Good sound output and a nice upgrade over any of the stock systems (assuming this is a JK).

  • lol yes it’s a jk, I like them for the bigger screen option. But I saw the reviews, and apparently the wiring install is horrible. But she doesn’t want to upgrade jeeps, but she needs sound and a back up camera. Was hoping an all in one kit would be easier to deal with. thank you for the info sir!

The wiring itself isn't a big problem unless you ordered a kit without the plug-n-play adapters, but tearing the dash apart is a pain! lol I tore my JK apart a few times to replace my base-model radio with the 730-series touch screen radio, add a mic for the phone, add a remote start kit, etc. The Stinger kit has decent instructions with their plug-n-play kit though, https://www.quadratec.com/p/st…ver-wrangler-jk-rb10jk11b

  • I went to Crutchfield after having the stinger in my Wrangler for a few months I did not like it at all. It froze up quite often and would never stay connected on Bluetooth. I had someone recommend the Alpine ILX-w670 and I am very pleased with how the radio sounds. I will say the instal kit that crutchfiled has for the radio is less then Ideal it leaves terrible gaps around the radio. So doing some research I found this kit and it is a perfect fit barely any gaps around the radio. https://www.scosche.com/2007-d…wrangler-chrysler-sebring I spent around 500 for the radio and all the wiring kits that I needed and even with a few extra ones I added on for the sirius antenna. There is also a company out there that makes a microphone that replaces the one in the B pillar. I am trying to find the link to that one. It works better then the stock one did.

Always willing to meet up if you want to check out the sound before you decide but I would fully stay away from the stinger radios. Alpine does have a radio kit but it is very pricey and I just thought the look of it was a little off in the Wrangler.

  • I know I’m late to the party but have to second what Skmack said. I went with the Alpine iLX-670 and it is awesome! Got it from Crutchfield and gave the extra $70 for them to do the wiring and send it to me plug-and-play. Soooo worth it. I had a little hiccup with the Steering wheel control but gave them a call and in 5 minutes was up and jamming! Skmacken id really like the link to that mic. That’s the only shortfall of the iLX is the mic it’s, meh. On the phone it’s great, noise cancellation is pretty good but if you try hands free Apple CarPlay it doesn’t hear you. Hope you find what suits you best!

  • I need something that can get wet. I"ve been through 2 or 3 radios. Actually thinking of something I can just hook an IPOD or play Pandora through.

I sold a lot of Sony marine stereos at Quadratec, but the reviews on the current models seem to be hit and miss as to their moisture protections. The Tuffy consoles have an option for a stereo, it's intended to prevent theft but they do a decent job of keeping them dry too. Of course, that's $300 to mount a $80 headunit. https://www.quadratec.com/products/14026_XX_PG.htm

  • I have a tuffy console.

does it have the radio compartment? It can be a little hard to read the display there but might let the radio last longer.
