Does anyone know of a restoration shop in the area for the mid sections of the frame. Replaced front and rear to spring brackets in2014-2018,,,Salt has taken its toll even when coated with the PR15-3 step system. Rusts from the inside out of the tubing. Thanks, Don Wilmington Delaware 19807
i might be able to help. I repair lots of tj frames. Frame caps r available from Pocano Metal and Autorust.
Eastwood internal frame coating aerosol for the win. Available in black, or zinc chromate green. Takes approximately 3 spray cans.
it only works if the frame has not started pealing from the inside and it needs 100% coverage. Both conditions r near impossible to achieve on a tj frame at this point.
I understand that. I should have been more specific. I meant after the repairs are complete. If it were mine, I'd chip off the internal surface slag using a drill and a long flexible shaft with a short length of bicycle chain welded to it, then I'd treat it with Eastwood's and 3m cavity wax. The Eastwoods will convert the descaled steel and slow down the rate of reoccurrence, and the cavity wax will prevent oxygen from reaching it. It goes without saying that oxygen is required to oxidize steel. My thinking is that if you're going through all the trouble to restore it, you should protect it.
and its my opinion and experience that the coating might help but its impossible to cover 100%. U cant do it while the frame is open because the welding will cook it off. The only way to correctly do it is to dip the frame but thats very costly. I figure it took 20+ years for the factory frames to rust through. In that time these jeeps were driven daily drivers on northern salted roads. Now these jeeps r 2nd or 3rd tier fun cars and r driven much less. Once the frames r fixed and hopefully kept clean of sand then they should easily last another 20+ years even without the coatings.

Good point, Aaron. I've had my CJ 20 years now. I'm having to re-do some of the work on the tub, but not on the frame.
