Haven't posted anything in a while, so how about some cool news... A JT will be competing in the King of the Hammers! Savvy Off Road is building one for he Everyman class. Keep an eye on their facebook page for details: https://www.facebook.com/SavvyOffRoad/ Haven't seen how they managed to get one so early.

A dude over on the Jeep Gladiator Forum made up a spreadsheet showing the currently available options for the JT and the model/package chart. Here it is: https://docs.google.com/spread…lgXSbh9Q/edit?usp=sharing He'll update it later when pricing has been released.

And some potentially bad news, there was an article in a Los Angeles paper that quoted Jeep's brand director Scott Tallon who said that the JT would be in dealership by end of June. Hopefully it's way before then.

The JT is on the list of vehicles for the Philly auto show (starts Feb 2nd)... I might have to take a drive up to check it out in person. O:)

Yeah, sounds like suspension height is what you need... the springs are the same for a short vs longarm lift, so you can upgrade later.

If you're doing it a la carte, you'll want the coils and shocks, plus extended brake lines, extended bumpstops (or spacers for original bumpstops), longer swaybar links (if you've already got disconnects, they might work), a rear trackbar bracket and a new front trackbar (or just drill a new hole in the mount on the axle). You may also need adjustable control arms (one set per front and rear) to adjust the pinion angle for the driveshaft.

You might want to consider a steering box skid plate, and skids for the lower control arm mounts, too. The control arm skids are pretty simple and are welded to the bracket, making it stronger and protecting at the same time. And, beefy differential covers if you haven't already replaced those. :) That'll ruin your day quickly. (I'm one to talk, I'm still running the stock covers on my Rubi... but I'm pretty good about picking a decent line).

There really aren't many options for a JK-specific subwoofer... Quadratec sells the standard box style that goes behind the back seat. https://www.quadratec.com/cate…onics/speakers/subwoofers They also have the Kicker 10" SubStage and PowerStage that are a cleaner/smaller install and have quick-detach cables. https://www.quadratec.com/products/14137_100X_PG.htm Crutchfield also has the SubStage kit, and they carry the JL Audio Stealthbox, which is probably the cleanest possible... it effectively raises the rear cargo area a few inches to hide the sub and retain as much cargo area as possible. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_…ox-Medium-Slate-Gray.html But, the StealthBox doesn't come with an amp, so the Kicker SubStage is probably your best bet.

I can't remember, what setup do you have now? Instead of a 4" lift, maybe consider a 2" spacer lift with new shocks and a 1.25" body mount lift to give you the room to fit bigger tires. Unless that's what you already have... O:)

Food for thought... when you increase the control arm angle, you increase the ride harshness. So, a 4" lift will be a noticeably stiffer ride than a stock Jeep, even with very expensive shocks. Unless you go with a long-arm lift (which is a lot more involved than a standard lift) or with drop brackets for the arms. With my XJ (same front suspension), the 7" longarm lift was so much smoother than a 4" short-arm lift. There are thousands of TJs out there running ~4" lifts on short arms, but only because they haven't experienced the ride quality of a long-arm kit. Of course... that does come at a price.

    Clayton has a stupid-beefy suspension, I don't think you'd regret it.

You'll need longer driveshafts if you haven't already done that. You won't need an SYE kit, since you have the Rubicon, just the driveshafts intended for the Rubi. Those run around $300 with the DEJA discount at Quadratec. You'll need the rear for sure, the front might be ok unless you go with a long-arm kit (more flex).

The Build & Price tool has the Gladiator! Sadly, no prices... but the option lists and specs are there. https://www.jeep.com/lineup.bmo.html?app=bmo

Of note for me, the turning radius is 44.5' compared with 34.5' for a 2-door JL and 40.8' for a 4-door JLU. Not as bad as I was expecting, although I'll miss the super tight turning capability.

I'm not sure if the specs in the "standard features" section are accurate, it says the gas tank is 19 gallons but the spec sheet I saw before said 22 gallons. Edit: it says 22 gallons later down the specs page. I guess they need to finish cleaning up a few spots.

A JT spotted without the camo! Assumed to be running a 2" Mopar lift with beadlocks and 37s. Looks like a Sport with the max-tow package (plain bumper with the 2-piece flares). I bet this will be a somewhat common setup, 2" lift and 37s!

    A few random things...

    Overall length of a 2-door JK- 164.3" (13' 8.3").
    Overall length of a 4-door JKU- 184.9" (15' 4.9").
    Overall length of a JT- 218" (18' 2").

The JT has a 22 gallon fuel tank. Not a surprise, I guess... might be the same tank as the JLU. But, hopefully the aftermarket will come out with a larger tank or an aux tank (maybe a spare tire delete?). More fuel would be awesome for me out west.

I read a post that said the diesel will actually have have a lower tow rating due to cooling issues. They already had to modify the grill for extra airflow for the gas engine. We'll see...

Supposedly 35s will fit stock and fit in the spare location. 37s with a 2" lift. I think Quadratec measurements showed the Rubicon has 24" clearance at the rear bumper with stock 33s, so that's pretty promising.

Why the 2020 Jeep Gladiator isn't called a Scrambler (https://www.autoblog.com/2018/…pickup-why-not-scrambler/)

After years of development and constant digging by spy photographers and forum users alike, there wasn't a whole lot surprising about the 2020 Jeep Gladiator reveal. But one thing that was a bit unexpected was the name. While never officially announced, the Internet had accepted the name Scrambler for the Jeep pickup and it was referred to as such until just before the reveal. There are reasons for the Gladiator name choice.

Jeep representatives explained that one of the reasons for the choice of Gladiator is because of the Jeep Gladiator concept truck from 2005. That concept led to many rumors of a Wrangler-related pickup truck, and you can see some design influence from it on the current truck. Of course the concept was just a two-door extended-cab pickup. Also, besides the concept heritage, the Gladiator name was shared with the longest-running Jeep pickup truck line, the Gladiator and J-Series.

The Jeep folks also noted that they wanted to avoid the Scrambler name because they felt the old Scrambler wasn't enough of a full-on truck, and the company wanted to emphasize that the new Gladiator is a true truck designed to be a truck. The original '80s Scrambler was effectively a stretched CJ-7, and practically called CJ-8, with a longer cargo area. It was mainly a truck because it was available with a half-cab top. But it was also available for a full-length wagon top eventually. So the Scrambler was more related to the first Wrangler Unlimited, which was a stretched two-door Wrangler, than to the new Gladiator, which has a unique frame, unique rear suspension and a separate bed and cab.

If we're being honest, we don't think the Scrambler name would have been a problem. It's clear that Jeep fans are very fond of the name, and it would fit the idea of a Wrangler truck. But we also certainly don't have a problem with the Gladiator name either. It's equally historic, and even if it wasn't, it sure sounds great, evoking toughness and capability. Perhaps if people are really bothered by the truck not being called Scrambler, Jeep can roll out a graphics package as a tribute to the old models.

Official spec and feature availability sheets attached as PDFs.

The tow ratings are at the bottom of the spec sheet for those interested. Sport has the available 7650lb tow rating, while the Overland is limited to 6000 max and the Rubicon is 7000 max. All models have a Class II bumper hitch (for utility trailers or racks?), with the Class IV being an option for real towing.

Here's the official press release, a good read: http://media.fcanorthamerica.c…release.do?id=20431&mid=1
