  • Rear shock length?

    OK. Sorry for the delay, work and closing prep on my house are eating up all my time. I went out this morning and measured that I have 3 7/8 of shock shaft exposed at ride height. I know this is way off of the original 8" I said, but I forgot I measured it with the axle on a jack and alil up from full droop (I'm an idiot, sorry). I have the 7063's now as said before, If I went with the 7028's I would have just about 5" of travel either way. Heres some of the measurments I came up with -
    At ride hieght my shock length is 19.81 (just over 7/8)
    7063 -(Collapsed - 15.94") (Extended - 27.07) (Stoke - 11.12)
    7028 -(Collapsed - 14.82") (Extended - 24.84) (Stoke - 10.02)

    Should I leave the shocks I have and just bumpstop it or should go with the smaller shocks.

    Ill take some more measurements tomorrow to get a better picture on paper. The 8" was an educated guess, from what I remember last night (sitting at work now). To me it seemed like I would have little if any up travel in the suspension.

    Well alil more info would help on my end. Im running the stock bar posts up top and I have an Iron Rock off road bracket kit on my 8.8 so it does relocate the shock away from the axle slightly. I went through Qtec for the shocks with their template and it recommended the shocks I have now for someone with a 4.5" lift. When I look up the shock part number separately, the shock show they are for a 6-8" lift.

  • Rear shock length?

    I recently put on my 4.5" lift with Skyjacker 7000 hydro's on my TJ. The front went together fine with plenty of shock travel; but the rear at ride height has only 8 in of the shock piston exposed. I quess I'm trying to ask whats normal or not for this size lift. Do I need to look into a different shock or longer bump stops?

    My old YJ was the same thing, I bought it without one from Pa. Went through 2 times then on the 3rd they gave me hell. I mounted one to my spare tire carrier, they said it wasn't big enough, bought the largest red light I could find, like 8" around. Then they said it wasn't permanently attached....It was bolted down how much more permanent did they need. I finally made a bracket inside and hung it in the window, same guy passed it, handed me the paper and I ripped it off the rollbar and threw it on the ground. Mounted a TJ 3rd the next week for like 10 buck off ebay.

  • Long distance trip

    I was thinking about a Uwharrie for a while now. I thinks it about a 6 hr drive from Dover. There are some very nice camp grounds close to the trails.


    But the KY trip looks awesome...

  • Jack Stands needed

    I Just picked up a set from HF about a month ago. They were around 45 bucks for the large set, I would snag a flyer on the way in and they may have a 10-15% off coupon in there. Your prob not gonna find a used set around here, I know I always need 2 more than I have.

  • Beach Tires

    Look for some decent all-terrains for the beach, something that doesn't have too much lug spacing which will cause you to dig in. My old Kumho's were fantastic at RC in the rocks and mud but i hated them so much on the beach. I have 33" AT's now till I can go 35's and they are fantastic, even on the really loose sand. Also, it'll keep the road noise and rough ride down.

    Very typical for this time of year off the surf. The warmer waters bring in the small shark and skates.

  • First shark of the season :)

    Nice shark Slick... I've been really wanting to try it one of these days. Has anyone had luck with casting for sharks (not dogfish)? I know larger bait fish do come pretty close to shore.


    I've seen plenty of kayaks from the surf with no reprimand from DNREC officers.

  • yj rewiring

    You can use the crimp connectors but the best way is to solder the connection but with both always use heat shrink to protect the wires.


    Here's a list of basic wiring tools:


    Good pair of Crimpers
    Wire cutters ( the ones on the crimpers usually suck)
    Voltmeter and/or Test light
    Heat shrink tubing
    Quick connectors


    I also forgot in the previous post, dont cut what you dont know and when you do know, re-check. Wiring is easy when you break it down and look at it piece by piece.
