The domed flywheel on TJ's is news to me. All the junk I ever worked on was supposed to have a flat flywheel, just like the earth.
I resurfaced a Toyota celica flywheel in the driveway one time on jack stands with the engine idling. I crawled under there and used a file and then sandpaper to bring it into spec.
It was dangerous on many levels, and although I would recommend against it, that clutch worked perfectly for many miles.
In all seriousness, I purchase a factory service manual for every vehicle I intend to keep for a while. It is not cheap, but it is worth it for the vehicle specific info that you can't get elsewhere.
Thanks for the correction.

Good idea, thanks. These other people told me I could just stick the teeth back on and reuse them. WTF?

I am running a luk clutch and it is working very well. The throwout bearing is usually the cause of the screech. It should vary depending on if you are depressing the pedal or not. A guru I used to know said that they are called throwout bearings because anytime you are in that far you should throw it out and replace it! A new pilot bushing wouldn't hurt either, but most people don't change them. The flywheel should be taken to the machine shop and be resurfaced, it's pretty cheap. With that many miles it is probably not real smooth, and the new clutch will chatter. Or just replace the throwout bearing and "let it eat".

Here are the real spare gears. I think there's enough to build an extra six speed.

If you work on jeeps, you need a tub of that lube at the bottom right. -
That's whats great about these forums, so much info. I went ahead and used the epoxy to hold the teeth on, jb weld to fill the big gaps, and held in place with duct tape while it all set up. Super glue is just not safe.

They went back on pretty good.

Got it all apart. The brand new cluster gear lost about seven teeth and several more were cracked and ready to go. The brand new hardened shaft for the cluster gear didn't agree with all the hardened steel particles, so it was heading south also. The input shaft main bearing had gear teeth shoved into it and was rough also.
I ordered a NOS cluster gear and am waiting on a rebuild kit. At least the teeth that are gone are in constant mesh, eliminating "driver error" as the cause. The driver makes plenty of errors, just not this one. -
Thanks for the input guys. I certainly was kidding. Just trying to use a little humor to make the situation a little less of a bummer. I will be pulling the transmission this week and ordering more parts. I couldn't tell what gear they were from, but they were all new and sourced from wherever they were available at the time. I don't really remember hearing them break or anything, but it did pop out of gear violently once or twice.
It didn't sound quite like the t-86 that I blew up in my first jeep when my rebuilding buddy left out the bearing retainers. That was more of a crunch crunch crunch pow kind of thing. It also didn't sound like the time I was wheeling all day about fifty miles from home and when I stopped for gas the guy next to me said my jeep was smoking. When I looked under it the drain plug for the transfer case was gone and smoke was billowing out. Even with a new plug and oil it just got really loud really fast. -
I think the tooth count affects the gear ratio, it didn't seem like it had changed.
I was going to sign up for the January trail ride, but I don't think I'll make that one. At least the transfer case oil looked pretty good. It was going to be a relaxing winter. -
I was changing the gear oil in my t-90 today and some gear teeth came out with the oil. I guess I can either put them back in or save them for trail spares...you never know when you're going to break one off.

I recently modified the booster Venturi of my rochester 2g carb. Using my air/fuel monitor I've been increasing my main jet size to adjust the mixture. I ended up going from .051 jets all the way up to .059. The power of the dauntless v6 increased proportionally. It got so strong that my overdrive required two bungees to hold it in direct drive, and when I would get on it real good it would pop violently out and back into gear. So I bought a main drive gear from novak, pulled off the overdrive, and replaced it with the bull gear. It is now smoother and quieter than ever, and it doesn't pop out of gear on hard acceleration. Overdrive was cool, but not that cool. While I was at it I drilled the shift rail end cap on my t-90 shifter to vent it back into the case. I plumbed it with copper. The space between the rails and the end cap would fill up with gear oil and make it real hard to shift into second or reverse. Now that they can vent, shifting is very easy and has a real positive feel. Hopefully I'm about done with that.
I was also going to recurve the mechanical and vacuum advance, but it ain't broke... -
The wheels and tires shown here are for sale. I think they are 31 9.5 15. Less than two years old and only used in driveway and to pass inspection. A few hundred miles maybe. The wheels are old cj-7 chrome wagon wheels. There was rust under the clear so I stripped them and polished off most of the rust. They are pretty desirable apparently.
They are 5x5.5". I would take 800.00 for the set.

It's a three-piece hood with air actuated functional scoop!

Thanks again for all the help. I think I might have conquered photobucket! Here is the picture from the day I bought it.

Hello fellow jeepers! I've been building my old CJ2A for about two years now. It's finally time to get it out of the garage and out into the world. My first vehicle was a 69 cj-5 which I built when I was 15. I've pretty much been into jeeps ever since. I went on the trail ride Saturday and had a great time. There were a lot of cool rigs and everybody was friendly, so I joined up. I'm looking forward to more trail riding and meeting more of you and your jeeps!
Here is my little jeep -
I was one who was neither member nor guest. I had the old primered Willys. I had a great time wheeling with everyone and I appreciated the convoy out of Newark. Thanks for being a great trail captain John. If you hadn't apologized for doubling back I would have never known! I just finished this Jeep in April and I've been shaking it down ever since. It's been working good lately so I decided to give it a go. I'm glad I did, and I'm looking forward to going again. I went ahead and joined so I could have a name. Thanks again to everybody.
Now if I could only figure out how to pay the dues!
