Deja ride to RC Jan 20th and 21st Trail Report

  • Deja host an open trail ride to Rausch Creek Saturday, January 20th and Sunday, January 21st.

On Saturday we had Slowpoke (Jay), Shorebird (Randy), Subvet (Fran), daddanelena (Wayne), JeepSahara (Chris), along with 2 jeeps from West Chester.

We all stayed together as a group for the day. We started out on Trail 2 (blue) which was a good combination of rock gardens, hill climbs, and tank traps with numerous bypasses. Everyone had a good time picking their own line and trying their luck and skill. The hill climb proved to be a challenge for Jay's carb but he conquered it! No one wanted to try their luck with Frog hole (I don't blame them) as there was about 2" of ice on top of the decently deep hole. From Trail 2 we tried the different lines of Crawler Ridge. Fran and Randy tried the right line up after we all made it down. Both of the "gracefully" made it up with some spotting help. From there we headed over to the West side of the park and broke for lunch at the head of the Trail 15 (blue). We all made short work of trail 15 with the deep ruts. We shot down Trail 11 (green) and started Trail 12a (blue). The trail started out with deep, muddy ruts and ended with long rock gardens. With some spotting and a strap everyone made it through. The group than headed to the South side of the park via Trail H, Tower Road, Pole Line, and Trail B (all green). Once on the south side, we took a look at Tombstone (I tried about 3 lines before sticking to one and finally making it up). Fran, Randy and Wayne decided they didn't want to chance it. We headed over to Lake Christy and attempted the different hill climbs around there. Will a strap here and there and a little help everyone took a different line. Curving around the remainder of the South Side, we headed back to the East side and did Trail 1a (green) backwards with a black bypass which Wayne, Randy, Fran and myself tried. Everyone tried the infamous gully on Trail 1 with only Chris (green cherokee) needing a strap. We finished the day on L3 (blue) where I had the brilliant idea to try Drain Plug. No one had been through it the whole day as there was a thick sheet of ice covering it. Once I broke through I almost made it the whole way but had to back up and hit the ice harder to break it. The water was up about 1/4 the way on my full doors. Made it through though! Everyone headed up back to the staging area to reconnect and head out.

Thanks to everyone for coming out on such a cold weekend! Excellent time!

Randy and/or Omaha will fill us in on Sunday's events.

I've got a little bit more footage too that I'll post over the next couple days.

  • well as you can see from the pics yesterday was a successful run with 7 jeeps in attendance from three tjs, two cherokee's, one grand cherokee, and one yj. since we had two people that it was there first time out we decided to take it easy and see how they did, even though both jeeps where highly built, with the red cherokee having a 5in RE longarm kit 33" truxs mt's and a rear arb. While the Grand has a 4 in teraflex, and a 2in spacer lift to net 6 in of lift.

The group finally started away from the office at 9ish and headed up to 1a thinking it would be a good start for those that had not been off-road before. Most chose to do the gully with the first timers being a bit timid but the red cherokee did give it a try. The next thing you know we are running the black rock garden with everyone making it through no problem. We then made our way to the pole line and did the short up hill there right near where camp C used to be with a few people choosing to take the harder line. Following that the group decided to try Yellow jacket, where anyone that wanted to try made it up. After taking so video and everyone getting up we then made our way to trail 2 with everyone making it through no problem. The group continued on to the back side of Crawler Ridge and down the back side, again with a few people going down the harder part. we then broke for lunch and after everyone decide that standing around in 15 degree weather and talking sucked we made our way to the west propertywhere we played on Big Rocks for a little bit and then took trail 12c before beginning our trip back to the east property the trip had been very uneventful as far as breakage until the very last hill where i decided that we should come down behind the office but on one of the black hill climbs everyone made it down ok with the exception of the Grand cherokee which took a bad line and ended up almost going over and putting a dent in to the driver side door and severly scratching the body up, we ended up winching him out in reverse and having him drive down U3 and out to the staging area. I hope everyone had a good trip and approciate all the help we go with the retival of the Grand and all the pics and video taken by zeke i had a great time and got to meet some new faces even though i am terrible with names and can't remember anyones from the trip so please post up here so i can change the jeeps to the names of people.

  • Many thanks to everyone on Saturday's ride for making this clueless first-timer feel at home, and kudos to Chris for being a terrific trail boss. His expert driving and complete disregard of the laws of physics were an inspiration to us all. It was a great day. We didn't even feel the cold once we got started. The trails were tougher than I expected -- my carb wasn't the only thing that was challenged, but my junk made it home, so it was a good first day. Can't wait for the next one.

  • Great pics (waiting for more)! Two days, two great rides. I know that she's not seeing this, but the lady on the desk at the Comfort Inn was really cool. No water at check-in, so I asked if we got complementary beer. She went and got us some. We B.S. with her about jeeps, kids, sports, and the best place to eat... all good. Chris & Chris pretty covered the real report. I'm looking forward to the next ride. See ya.
