Deja host an open trail ride to Rausch Creek Saturday, January 20th and Sunday, January 21st.
On Saturday we had Slowpoke (Jay), Shorebird (Randy), Subvet (Fran), daddanelena (Wayne), JeepSahara (Chris), along with 2 jeeps from West Chester.
We all stayed together as a group for the day. We started out on Trail 2 (blue) which was a good combination of rock gardens, hill climbs, and tank traps with numerous bypasses. Everyone had a good time picking their own line and trying their luck and skill. The hill climb proved to be a challenge for Jay's carb but he conquered it! No one wanted to try their luck with Frog hole (I don't blame them) as there was about 2" of ice on top of the decently deep hole. From Trail 2 we tried the different lines of Crawler Ridge. Fran and Randy tried the right line up after we all made it down. Both of the "gracefully" made it up with some spotting help. From there we headed over to the West side of the park and broke for lunch at the head of the Trail 15 (blue). We all made short work of trail 15 with the deep ruts. We shot down Trail 11 (green) and started Trail 12a (blue). The trail started out with deep, muddy ruts and ended with long rock gardens. With some spotting and a strap everyone made it through. The group than headed to the South side of the park via Trail H, Tower Road, Pole Line, and Trail B (all green). Once on the south side, we took a look at Tombstone (I tried about 3 lines before sticking to one and finally making it up). Fran, Randy and Wayne decided they didn't want to chance it. We headed over to Lake Christy and attempted the different hill climbs around there. Will a strap here and there and a little help everyone took a different line. Curving around the remainder of the South Side, we headed back to the East side and did Trail 1a (green) backwards with a black bypass which Wayne, Randy, Fran and myself tried. Everyone tried the infamous gully on Trail 1 with only Chris (green cherokee) needing a strap. We finished the day on L3 (blue) where I had the brilliant idea to try Drain Plug. No one had been through it the whole day as there was a thick sheet of ice covering it. Once I broke through I almost made it the whole way but had to back up and hit the ice harder to break it. The water was up about 1/4 the way on my full doors. Made it through though! Everyone headed up back to the staging area to reconnect and head out.
Thanks to everyone for coming out on such a cold weekend! Excellent time!
Randy and/or Omaha will fill us in on Sunday's events.
