Laser Cutting Steel

  • I want to get a logo cut into a 3/16 inch thick body armor panel...
Any idea where I can get that done? I did the google search, and kicked out some emails, but most of the shops don't look they do small jobs...

    Anybody have a lead?

I know they have the items to do it, but not sure if they do small jobs or not.

they dont do small stuff there machine cycle is like 9 hours or more

delaware metal in the newport has some guys that do side work they can mill it out if you call them ask for tom or jerry they do good work

  • boyds welding thats how i got my floor made
i took them a template of my trunk on white cardboard and they got a machine that cuts around it came out real nice

  • Got a hold of Zach at AtoZ... If I can get an autocad of the design he says he can get it done...

Next challenge... getting an autocad drawing..

I might be able to help out with the drawing...

  • If pat cant do it I have a friend thats in collage for graphic design I could send him a picture of what you want and he would send back the cad drawing. But if pat could do it it would probably be faster for my guy is in school in Georgia.

  • I was hoping to get an autocad of something like this...

    I have 0 artistic skill...

The plan is to put it just above the jeep cutout in the below body panel... Not too big.. A little smaller than the jeep logo width wise...

If anybody has the tools and talent, have at it..

  • If you send it too us as a bitmap we could do it in vinyl but if you cut it out the little dots in inside the white won't be there and the whole black circle with the skull will have nothing to stay attached too. Don't think that design will work with steel but like I said I can make you a black sticker any size you want.

    Let me know

  • That skull pic is a laser cut piece of metal for a fan cover... so it does work, and could look just like that... Only difference is that the outer circle would be the steel plate and not be round... Just need to get it converted to a CAD file so they could cut it... The fan cover is only like $12 so i might just buy it to use as a template...

4x4Fun scanned it into autocad last night but it needs work.. I'm in no rush... if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right...

it would be cool looking though...

I debated the detail and even had a few picked out on Ebay.. that's where I got my current vinyl ones... Wanted to kick it up a notch this time... The ebay vinyl I was looking at is below...

  • A buddy of mine freehanded a cad drawing... It looks pretty awesome.. I'll convert it to jpg and post it sometime soon... Making a few minor tweaks to the design, then I'll ship the armor panel to get cut...

Should have it all wrapped up in a few weeks... I'll post the final pics when it's done...

  • Well... here it is... Going to get this lasercut into the armor panel...
I need a sheet of white and red vinyl so I can cut out the background before I mount it...
Was going for white bones and red eyes... Circle is like 6" around.. Any leads on getting a
couple pieces of vinyl? Sounded like some of you have some.. Where can I get it?

  • Ok... I'm almost done... I have an autocad file I need to get printed actual size so I can see if it fits right before I send the below out to get lasercut into some steel... Anybody have access to a plotter or something and be willing to print it and mail it to me? Hit me with your email and I will send you the DXF file...

The armor plat I think turned out pretty good... It actually wraps all the way to the flare, and the sckull I think came out cool.... The square is so the jeep logo shows through...

  • Sure are adding A LOT of weight to that jeep. Hope it doesn't mind it and hope you don't mind paying for the extra gas. Not sure why you'd need that much protection in the front, but hey, to each his own.
