  • I am writing this to pass on information found. The alternator in my 94 XJ went bade and I was looking to upgrade it without spending 300+ on a mean green unit. I found a post on the site that lead me me here.

I thought I had it made. Picked up a reman from PB and tried to put it on. I found that the stock bracket would not clear the slightly fatter unit nor would it fit behind the studs that fit though the timing cover and block to the front of ALT. Stuck for time went back to PB and got a stock 90 amp unit and I'm back on the road. My thought was that this worked on a TJ 4.0 so it should work on a XJ. Someone else may have found a way, my attempt went down to defeat for this round. Next time more research will be done. Hope this will bring out more great tech tips to help the next owner

  • I put a 160 amp alternator in my TJ and that was no problem. From what I see out of google, putting anything bigger into an XJ requires modifying the bracket.

  • I thought someone on NAXJA posted up how to swap a Durango alternator into an XJ.

  • That would be found here:

Unless there is another one you are speaking of. As far as I can tell it will only fit if you modify the bracket. :wavey:
