Okay guys.... I need your expertise with timing/carb adjustment! I did a full rebuild of my 258 with the clifford performance kit (bored .030, milled /decked, cam, the works). Kept the original head and had the machine shop do a full port and polish and but the bigger Chevy valves in. After the rebuild it fired right up and I did cam break in and oil change. All went well. However now I am struggling getting the timing/carb tuned in.
I have MC 2100 1.08 venturis and hei ignition.
My problem is that when timed to 8 BTDC, I have to turn my idle screw all the way in to keep even 500 RPM. I can reward the timing farther and get more rpm, but it seems to run best and get best vacuum around 20 Btdc which I know can't be right. Furthermore, the mixture screws don't seem to do anything at all.
When I go from idle to wot, it first almost stalls then builds up rpm and power. At idle, it does a rhythmic drop to almost stalling, then picks back up.
I will link a couple videos. Input would be greatly appreciated!
