My son has a 98 cherokee 4.0 auto and the past 2 days it has been leaving him on the side of the road. When the jeep stalls it runs rough for a minute then stalls . I thought fuel , but when it stalls it has fuel at the fuel rail [ tested by the pressure valve stem on rail ,lol dont know proper name ] and check the pump by turning key on and off and can hear the pump run .It sits for a while then starts and runs , some time rough sometimes not . When we get it running again and mash the excelarator blows a little dark smoke for a second like it is flooded , but not all the time . Oh and forgot no obd lite on, and has had a tune up with in 6000 miles ago. Im not the smartest person but not the dumbest either LOL . Im sure its probly a sensor or electical . Any help would be great thanks Howie

Got the problem fixed ! Thanks for all the help

Thought about that Percy , but the problem was the plug on the sensor . Oil was leaking from the top of the plug where the wires go into it . Thats why I changed to mechanical, bought an electrical sender first but found the problem was the plug.

Well I had my oil sensor go bad today so I replaced it with a mechanical gauge and new line. What do I need to do to make the red check gauge lite go out? Can I cut and tie the 2 wires together where the old sensor was? Just want some advice before I go hacking on the wires. Hoping somebody has done this already. P.S and I know I can take the bulb out but would like to keep it for the other gauges. Thanks in advance Howie

Ok so my son was driving my TJ and the brakes went out on him. Lucky for us it was in a family members driveway. After inspection I have a hard brake line rusted at a frame clamp on the passenger side. It is the hard line that runs from brake hose on passenger side up to grill around front of jeep and back to the brake master . Is this 3/16 line ? Im buyin a roll of line and bending it my self , and if it is 3/16 line would it help to make it 5/16 ? Any advantage to this ? Sorry for the endless chatter , just want to do it once . Thanks Howie

Pretty cool pics ! Should be some good fishing in a couple of years.

Well it was actually purchased for my brother inlaw. He had a YJ last year and sold it and has hated his self ever since ! lol . As far as the frame we are just gonna grind the rust and plate it . Project in the making but mostly light trails and beach . Deal was he must become a member !
