it could be the tranny thats actually clocked lower, all i know is that when i put my entire xj drivetrain into my yj the t-case is clocked lower than the original yj one was. I had to notch the crossmember.

as ian said, the transfer case drive shaft and rad. are NOT the same for a comanchee and a yj.

the transfer case will bolt on but it is clocked differently for the comanchee so it will be rotated downward and may not fit with your crossmember. That is if the spline count is the same.

I sheared the passenger shackle hanger off the frame and the drivers-side is hanging on for dear life.

The only onther issue was figuring out after towing the jeep up there that I had the wrong size ball on the hitch. The guy from 4 acres who hooked the trailer up to the my truck and "inspected" everything failed to realize that the ball was the wrong size. So after towing up there, and then in the middle of now where on a sat having to tow home was interesting.

when i brought my yj in on 35 12.50's , when the supervisor measured ( the actual inspection guy called him over) the tires he told me that the limit is 4" past the flair. He said i was at 4.5 but it was really only the guys who were way out or did not flares at all. The inspector then tried to find the vent line to the tank to crimp it off, and the supervisor told him it was an 87 he didnt have to do that. So we will see what happens in a year when i go again. Cant wait for this thing to be an antique so I dont have to get it inspected.

while driving on rt 13 just past bj's today at 4:50pm i saw a blue tj with one of those h1 conversions on it. It also had a black roof rack.

No offense to anyone but I dont like it. Had only seen the pictures and it looks very similar to the renegade package they had on wranlglers with those "ground effects" as I would call them. Don't care much for those either.

the color was nice though, a dark midnight blue. :peace:

I was up there once on a "DEJA" ride once, I know donny was there, and I believe there was one or two other jeeps. It was a really nice area to just drive around, and have some fun off the beaten path. I would definatlly go back sometime, as soon as I get the jeep back in one piece.

that was with myself and Ian.

We have been up there a handfull of times. Always different. The first time we went there were huge waterholes 2-3ft deep, and lots of them.

Every other time no water, but its still nice. I like it up there.

I am running SOA in my 87 YJ (6CYL). I added RE 0" lift add a leafs to help stiffen up the packs. I have axle wrap like a champ and will def. have to add an anti wrap bar. The other option is stiffer packs so this really is not cheaper than just doint a SUA lift kit. I am running 37" MT/R (so there really 36") with a little fender trimming (from when I put on TJ flares). I am running an SYE. I am not running track bars front or rear and the front sway bar mounting plates worked out. I just swapped sides with the stock ones. I am running longer brake lines and shocks as well. The steering I have not yet addressed. I am going to run a Hi-steer setup when the funds come in, but I dont expect my lifted Jeep on 37's to ride like a lexus.

There is a good article in JP that I just got yesterday about SOA. You should pick it up. Where are you located. I am in Newark and you are welcome to come by and check out the rig to get ideas and such.

I had an AW4 auto in my XJ---the gear i used depended on my wheel speed--- if i was going into a mud hole i kept it in D. If I was rock crawling and the t-case was in LO I kept the tranny in 1.

I follow the same rule of thumb in my YJ (it is acutally the same AW4 that was in my XJ)

Been doing it this way for years and never had a problem. I do have a rather large cooler in line but pretty much every trip I am on now, the tranny is in 1 most of the time.

Wow pretty cool stuff, didn't know there were different ratings like that or that Hella had two different conversions. I bet a E-code Hella conversion with Silverstar or PIAA super white bulbs would be real sick.

thats exactly what i used in my xj and use in my yj now. the silverstars have compared dead even with the more expensive piaa bulbs i used to buy. i use the e-code hellas. I also use silverstars in my grand cherokees headlights and foglights and the comparison between the old yellow bulbs is dramatic.

arb's are sweet and all, but the draw back is money
for what you do, you may want to look at a cable locker, no compressor.

the easiest and cheapest way would be ez lockers, but it does affect the road performance slightly

there is only a 136.05 difference buying from quadratec.

both arb's and ox's work great but for your application i think 2 would be overkill. I run the arb's Ian runs the ox's.

did you think about a limited slip in the rear and if rain is your thing, then tires are going to make the biggest difference

the unit i have is a garmin gpsmap 60c. the 60cs i think what drj has adds the addition of a an electronic compass (in the 60c it only works when the unit is actually navigating) and an altimeter.

    I would reccommend the

us topo software but the 24k topo software is supposed to be better.

i would stay away from the metroguide software and get the

    city select software

the quest2 is the same unit as Jeeps new "trail guide" gps available for the wranglers. garmin just created a special mount for the wrangler only and updated the software so that is has a jeep screen saver and such.

    well what what his response?

I must say that the garmin unit i have has upset me a little. But from what I am being told, it is in the software. metrogude does not work very well at all. It does not caclulate directions very well and re-routing leaves little to be desired. I was told that the software that I received used old data and maps for its direction calculations. I guess I cant complain since it was free. I was alos told that the city select north america v7 software is what i require (all this info comming straight from garmin) and that it would do everything that i wish. The topo software is great, and that was free as well, so again no complaints.

    no for you:

do you want a portable one, or a fixed in car unit. I have 2 fixed in car units, and 1 portable (not hand held) in car unit in stock. I have also just finished setting up to be a garmin dealer so anything that they offer http://www.garmin.com I will have available.

I am just letting you know, so that if you are close you can come check some things out. You should really figure out what features you are looking for.

For example, a unit that accepts memory cards (mine does not) in my mind is better because when you change locations, you can just pop in a different card to change the map data. On mine i can only fit detailed maps for a small area. If i was traveling to arizona for example, i would have to upload a new map-set from my computer to the unit when I got farther west....get the idea? It would be much nicer to already have the new map-set on a card and pop that into the unit.

    hope this helps some.

I had the BOR 6" springs on my xj. They are worth the money. Typically people are removing one of the springs, but you will have to check in to that. I liked them and with a comanchee shackle I ran a 8" rockralwler spring in the front.

    worked well for me

i just snapped my stock dana 30 shaft(passenger side) this past weekend. It lasted for 2 years with 35's. Now some people will say it's becuase i am running 37's but the 37's weigh less than the 35's did. Just go easy on it.
when mine went it took out part of my ARB so alloy shafts are def. on my list.

    and winch cables
    and lockers

Man, it ate good this sunday

yep I need a new passenger side shaft, and the arb is salvagable, i need everything from the end cap out. about 200 worth of parts for the arb alone.

i wouldn't split hairs that much.

    to me

a modified vehicle, in terms of what we are looking for, is one that has had modifications to the suspension, or alterations the the axles (changing gears or adding lockers-not factory limited slips). motor work (intakes, headers, exhaust on an otherwise stock motor) and other stuff is technically modifying a vehicle but i don't count that for our scenario.

i don't count accessories such as bikini tops and cb's and the like.

i also think changing tire size is included with that. obviously you have to modify the suspension for 31" plus tire sizes.

for the sport tj putting 31's on is modified. obviously for a rubicon it is factory.

i have met a few and talked to a few that r your size elff
    (well maybe almost)
and i have had the impression that they would want nothing to do with a stock jeep such as myself
its like they think they r better than the rest of us

    thats exactly my point:

if anyone has an attitude and are going to be bored, (or get an attitude) if your riding on a stock level ride, with your hardcore level rig and are pissing and moaning, then you should not be there. That is a personal problem that you have. That does not mean that everyone with larger than 33" tires has this attitude and wont enjoy a relaxing time out on the trail with some friends.
