I swapped out my 2.5L from a 98TJ with a 5.9L from a Dakota R/T. Also new trans, 8.8 rear and changed the input gear in the transfer case from a 21 spline to a 23 spline. Wasn't too difficult. First engine swap I have ever done. Make sure when you get the engine you get the trans that came with it. Any questions just ask.

No spin in the driveshaft the flange on the axle moves like maybe an 1/8th of an inch. Oh and the driveshaft is brand new too.

Yeah there is no play after I put the yoke back on. I took the case apart and still didnt see anything wrong. I dont what else to do.

Should the shaft move front to back at all? after I have the output yoke off I can move the shaft about 3/8 - 1/2 of an inch. Is this normal cause I think this is the loud knock that I have been hearing.

Call Bob Suplee. You cant beat his prices. including shipping

I agree that it was cheeper to switch the whole axle than housings. If you can find a whole axle with the correct gears for cheap

Does anyone know what the differences are between a TJ NP231 and a YJ NP231?
-
I have a clunking coming from my transfer case. Should I rebuild/fix the stock NP231 or replace with a different transfer case? And if so which one? Also it will be behind a 5.9L and an NV3550. Thanks

Could you guys recommend a shop or anyone in or around the dover thats able to do what your saying?

I cut my lines to the a/c system when I switched out my engine. Also 2 years prior to that my a/c stoped working because I had a hole in a line. Question: By doing this did I screw up the condenser and evaporator by allowing in moisture? cause if so I guess I will be leaning towards an onboard air system.

Just heard from the trans shop in OK City where I bought my NV3550. The guy said that the face of a tooth on the cluster gear had been grinded on. not sure why you would do that but I am getting another new transmission Hope to be back on the road by next weekend

Yeah but I took it to World Transmission and they said it was something internal and since its under a warranty its being sent out to OK City. Just trying to figure out what might have happened.
-
what would break? how much do you think it would cost to fix or get rebuilt?
-
How? What does it do to it?

Does anyone think that a bad/wrong/broken pilot bushing would cause a trans to have internal problems? ie. rattling
-

seems pretty early to have a bad bushing on a stocker '02 suspension.Thats what I thought too. I postioned my JEEP on the lip of the driveway so that the joint would separate so that I was positive that was the problem. Maybe try that or jacking up the bumper on one side might do that also. Just so your postive before you go spend money.

sounds like your swaybar links. mine did the same thing. The ball joint at the top of that bar broke lose and when ever I went up the lip on a driveway at an angle it would make a loud pop. Just get some quick disconnects. They make them for different size lifts and also no lift. Here is one example
