I remember that everyone hated the TJ when it came out too... and the YJ... and the new Cherokee, and first down-sized Grand.

True. I'm coming around to the new ones, I think the 4 door models look awesome with all the doors and top off. And I agree they look bigger with decent sized tires on it, but the Rubi's now come with 32" tires! I'm still not sure about the new flares, there's something about them...

Also, the Compass is going to take a LONG time to make sense to me.

I'm planning on this ride as well, either meeting at the Rt. 41/ Newark spot, or the 896/ 30 spot to follow everyone up. I have 33's and the front ez locker, but I also have a busted daily driver right now, so the Jeep is it for me. If anyone is not interested in doing blacks, I'd be happy to do a group focusing mainly on blues. I cannot afford any damage on my Jeep right now until the Corolla gets a new radiator. I will throw out there right now though that I do not have the trails memorized at RC (or anywhere else really...), and I will have to go by the map. I'm sure a small group of us can figure it out with no problems.

I'm not familiar with the area, but I won't be able to make it Saturday anyway. It looks though if you're on Rt. 13 you turn onto Cox Neck Road at St. Georges just on the North side of the canal, and the access road is down on the right hand side.

Post any questions you might have here and we'll try to help everyone get there.

ps-thanks for the help Jerry!

DeJA has been contacted by the C&D Canal Project Office, as well as by DNREC, who have requested help in cleaning up the canal on Saturday, March 10th, and Sunday March 11th. When DeJA coordinates these events it's a one day deal. However, this is not a DeJA coordinated event. DNREC is proposing having several other groups out as well for a major clean up of many areas of the canal. We would be working with people from Delaware Enduro Riders and other groups under the direction of DNREC to clean up these areas.

Dates are Saturday, March 10th, and Sunday March 11th
Meeting Place (as of now): pit area across from Gunning Bedford (directions and/or map will be posted for final meeting place closer to the event).

More information as to what to bring, wear, etc will be posted closer to the event as well.

Our immediate goal now is to get back to DNREC with a number of people from DeJA who will be attending. If you can make this event, please post on the SIGN UP PAGE for this event (http://www.delawareja.com/forum/index.php?topic=13947.0) with what day (or both days) you CAN attend. We need to get back to them within a week with a number. With several groups out for a large scale clean up, this will be a bit different than our past Canal Clean Ups. Should be pretty interesting, and we always have fun. I'd like to have a very large showing from DeJA at this event! If you can make it, please set one or both days aside and commit to being there.

DNREC has requested help with not only cleaning up the area as we normally do, but also with equipment if anyone has, or has access to dumpsters, rollbacks, loaders, etc.

Please read the email from them below:

As you all should be aware, we are planning a large scale cleanup event at the Canal on the weekend of March 10th and 11th. What I need to know from those who will be participating is what you all can contribute mainly in regards to equipment and garbage disposal as well as an approximate number of individuals who will be attending. We will be providing a tractor with loader bucket as well as our small dump truck but could use additional dumpsters/rollbacks and possibly an extra loader or two if they are available. I know that in the past the Enduro club has provided a dumpster when they did their post-event cleanup. I am currently working with New Castle County to see if they would be willing to cover any/all of the costs of garbage disposal. If those who will be attending could please let me know what they can provide I would appreciate it so that we can determine the best course of action to get the Canal cleaned up.

Also, I propose that we use the pit area across from Gunning-Bedford as our main meeting/staging area (suggestions for other areas are welcomed) and then send groups out to other areas of concern. Would meeting there at 9:00am on Saturday, March 10th work for everyone?

If you have any other comments or suggestions please fell free to ask. Thanks for your participation.

Any questions, please post them here and I'll answer them to the best of my knowledge.

Thanks, hope to see you all there!

I believe it was Carl that jumped into Pauls rolling jeep and saved my jeep from certain body damage.
E-brakes are definately not 100%

Yes, at GWNF years ago when we stayed on Kephart. My ebrake hadn't worked well for awhile at that point, but pulled all the way up it usually held. After that I never trusted it again. I always have, before and after that though, parked with the Jeep in gear.

After quadna and I replaced my front brakes, we adjusted my ebrake and it works much better now.

I really want to go on this trip, haven't missed a GWNF trip yet....but this is only 2 weeks before Selena's due date. Don't know if I'd be comfortable being that far away, and with no phone service at the campsite. Might be a very last minute decision for me depending on how she is feeling, and shorter trip, like leaving here Friday after work.

Hope to make it down, always a great time!

Just some additional info on this years Toy Drive. I received a call from Beth at the Hospital. In total, it took 29 wagons to get everything upstairs, and most of those were stacked pretty high. She also said they believe it's the largest single donation they have EVER received from one group!!

Nice work everyone, and thanks to everyone that supported Jeeps for Joy this year!

Welcome to Delaware, off-roading mecca of the East Coast! :wavey:

You happened upon our annual Toy Drive (http://www.jeepsforjoy.org), which is run by the club and it's members. I can't really add much to what you've been told already. Paragon and Rausch Creek at the places to go. The beaches here in DE for surffishing too, and you'll see the occasional trip to the Pine Barrens in NJ (mostly sand and mud).

Our next monthly meeting is in jan, at the Lobby House in Dover. There's plenty of folks from up north that drive down if you want to meet up with someone and follow them down. Dinner, Jeepers, and usually a pretty good time.

Hope to meet you on the trails.

Yeah, sorry guys. Our liability insurance for the event will not allow us to have anything like the RTI ramp at the toy drive. It would be a huge attention grabber, but we wouldn't be able to get insurance with it. No insurance, to permission to use the lot.

Just wanted to post up some last minute info on the Toy Drive on 12/9

    1. We will NOT be doing Friday night this year. Everyone is just too busy, and it's not worth it for the amount of donations we get, which averages over the last 4 years to be about 2.

    2. We will be starting at approximately 7:30am to set things up. If you want to stop by early and help out, please do.

    3. We have a HUGE raffle this year. Not all Jeep or off-road related items, as we're hoping to get people that stop by to donate to enter as well. Signed sports memorabilia, gift cards and gift certificates to local businesses, event tickets and more. We will also have another winch and synthetic line to raffle! So if you didn't win it at the benefit ride, you have another chance.

    4. Remember to keep an eye on the weather, and dress for the cold (and hopefully NOT for the rain or snow)

    5. You will be able to renew your membership for the 2007 year at the toy drive, and get your member decal. Please remember that you MUST fill out a new Application and Driver Agreement. They can be found here:

    Application & Driver Agreement: http://www.delawareja.com/fileadmin/downloads/app-driver.doc

    6. WSTW will be doing their live broadcast from 11am to 1pm, and will have music and prizes.

    7. Santa is arriving at 12 noon if you're planning on bringing the kids.

    8. The raffle drawings will start at approximately 1:30 (tentative). You do NOT need to be present to win, but if you enter the raffle and are planning on leaving before the drawing, you will need to write your name and number on the back of each raffle ticket.

    9. Immediately after the raffle, we will be begin packing some things up to do the caravan. The canopy will remain standing until we return from the hospital to take it down, but we will pack up just about everything else.

    10. The caravan will head out at approximately 2:30pm to the hospital. Directions for the caravan will be available at the toy drive, and possibly on the JfJ site (http://www.jeepsforjoy.org) ahead of time.

    11. If you do not know what to get as a donation, please check the Jeeps for Joy site. We have an updated list from Nemours/ A.I. DuPont, and remember there are always older kids and teens that we need to buy for as well.

Any questions on the event at all, please let me know here or in a PM.

Thanks everyone. We hope to see as many club members and forum guests out at at the toy drive as possible. Club support of this event is what keeps it going.

    Paul

Ok, first of all, Brian was at a "Tea Party"? I'm going to call shenanigans on that one and require a bit of explanation.

Bob Allen, Brian Little and myself are planning on being in the lot at 7:30 to start setting up. We have the canopy to set up, and a lot of raffle items to get organized.

See you all when you get there, but if you're late, don't blame me for all the good donuts being gone.

The toy drive website (http://www.jeepsforjoy.org , in case you don't want to scroll up....) has been updated with all the latest info. There are directions to the shopping center, a huge list of needed donations from the hospital, maps of the route we'll take from the toy drive to deliver the toys that afternoon, printable fliers, etc.

We will once again need members help at the event.

First and foremost....TELL YOUR FRIENDS! Print out some fliers, hand them out to people you know, friends, family, co-workers, etc. We need to get people to the event with donations! Tell them WSTW will be there for a live broadcast, and they'll have free giveaways as well. We will have raffles for Jeeps stuff, as well as gift cards and gift certificates, and other items from local businesses, sports teams, etc. Anyone can stop by and buy raffle tickets for a chance to win.

On the day of the event we'll need help with the following:

    - set up (7:30am!)
    - direct parking
    - raffle ticket sales
    - taking donations
    - counting and boxing donations
    - clean up prior to the caravan to the hospital

If you are interested in helping out in any way at the toy drive, please post up here.

    thanks

Brian, I already told you, but a HUGE THANKS to you, and Nichole, for all of your organization on this event. It really went great for the first time doing it! Very organized, and it all went smoothly I thought. We got a LOT of toy donations, which is just awesome. It's a huge boost for our total donations this year. Nichole and Patti (and the girls) did a fantastic job with handling the raffles and money. Chris Hall did a great job of directing people as they entered (until his 45 minute potty break :-\ )

All in all, it was a great day. Had a blast on the riding and did some cool blue and black trails with the guidance of Chris and Chuck, thanks guys!

I didn't take too many pics, but I got a few good ones, and I'll post them up here probably tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone that came out, brought a toy (or two) and supported the event. Hope everyone had a great time today.
