In the past few weeks, wanderlust has gone through some changes. Mostly cosmetic, but some other stuff too. A few weeks back when the wife and kid were out of town, I had the whole day to spend wirebrushing the frame and spraycanning it. I can't believe what a difference it made! Sure, not many others would notice, but I think it looks so much better without all that rust showing through. Also touched up the springs, shocks and skids with some paint, which I really need to redo and prep better next time. I installed my new (to me) wider pocket flares after heatgunning them black again, did the general washing and waxing, vacuuming and wiping down the interior, and pulled my AtoZ rockers off and painting them as well. Got my lights on the front wired up too. Lastly, about 6 months ago I got a e-z locker for the front 30. Finally got to Aaron's to put it in, and turns out my front u-joints were toast. Very dry and very not-movable. They were seized in so well that we bent the ear on the drivers side outer shaft. Luckily, Brian here had a set of shafts after a recent upgrade that we worked a deal on. Aaron replaced the u-joints in those as well, although they were in better shape than mine, just made sense since they were out of the Jeep already. I had been driving without the driver side inner shaft for the last week. Last night, we got the new (to me) shafts with new u-joints installed, and put new joints in the old good shafts of mine as spares, and the locker is in and working.

Nothing major, but very exciting. Well, to me anyway. 8)

I saw Dish and Heather this morning at the coffee shop, and she was very excited talking about it. It seemed it was down to 2 different ones. Hope she got the deal she wanted.

Congrats Heather! Can't wait to see it.

I'm no podiatrist, but does heat really work in that instance? I'm just trying to see how. I'm not saying it doesn't by any means, it just seems odd to me.

Although, the saying "have your work cut out for you" never made sense to me either.

I will say, thanks to wolverines suggestions of using a heat gun the faded flares, heat rocks for that!

It may not be on the calendar just yet. It will be Saturday, Dec. 9th, 9am to 1pm (for donations) and dropping donations off around 3 pm.

Trail Ride to benefit the Toy Drive is Nov. 18th at RC, don't forget!

ps sorry to go off topic

You should know by now we don't do that here! :)

As far as press releases, which is why I was responding, things do get sent out to all of the DE newspapers, radio stations, and DE & Philly TV stations. Unfortunately, we don't get to pick what they feel is interesting to write about. The Toy Drive got some coverage from the News Journal a few years back, but since they they have never responded. My ex-neighbor, who works for them, said they generally only cover a story once. Sad I thought, but I think they look at it as trying to get free advertising. (which I was trying to do).

It's up on Q'tec's site now, and BMJA's in just a minute.

Keep posting this on each and every local club site you know of. It's a good day of wheeling for a good cause.

Thanks to everyone that came out today and put in the effort. We, once again, got a lot of work done down there. As usual, we found much more than the engineer and I saw while driving around a few weeks ago. We got to winch some things, strap some things, drag some things, it was a pretty good day. Hope everyone made it home safe and sound.

I did see Joo for a minute. When Pat left to take that first load from the first place he and I stopped at, I had "repelled" down that hill and Joo stopped as he drove past after biking someplace down there.

So after all the guessing and volt testing and doubting the battery was bad, the battery was bad. I took battery out of the Liberty, put it mine, and it turned right over. Got a new battery in it and it starts fine. So as long as there is not some other issue that's going to drain the battery and put me back at square one, I should be good to go.

(at least I won't have to drive the Corolla tomorrow to the clean up)

Just as info, I did run the Red Top through a recharging cycle, put the multimeter on it, and it read a bit low. The next moring, a bit lower, and after work again lower. Seems like it would not hold a charge anymore.

Weather info for Saturday... right now we're looking at partly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain, according to weather.com

We do not have a rain date set for this event. On Saturday morning, if it's cloudy or just drizzling, please plan on still coming for the clean up. We're going to be cleaning up trash, so we're going to get dirty. What's a little rain and mud amongst friends? However, if it for some reason turns to a torrential downpour, assume we're not going to have the clean up that day and I'll try to reschedule with the Project Office asap.

If the weather gets back, I'll post on here that we're not having it as early as I possibly can, so check here if you are not sure. If nothings posted, we plan on having it. If you want to be sure, you can call my cell at 302-388-5888.

By the way, if you're the first to show up, and the only vehicle there is a little ugly Corolla, you're not necessarily in the wrong place. :(

I thought it was a funny article. I think she meant it to be humorous. Others will take it that way, but who cares? How could it not be humorous when she twice called her Rav4 "sweet ass Toyota". That's a riot in itself!

Besides, how else would a bunch of pompous, holier-than-thou, snobby Jeepers react but to just brush it off?

HOWEVER, it would be very cool if she would come to a DeJA event, especially the Toy Drive, and give it some attention too!

I appreciate the offer Donnie, unfortunately I have a 5pm appt. up in Kennett tonight, and probably won't get home until after 7. I have no idea how long it will last.

When I do get home, I was going to try a different battery in the Jeep to see if it makes a difference. Probably should have done that at the beginning to see if it's the battery or rule it out. Depending on how that goes, I'm going to go through a charging cycle of the Red Top according to the directions I found on a site, and see if the voltage reading goes up at all.

    nemours approved today.

Jerry got the info up on the homepage here at DeJA, and there are printable pdf files for the information page and a preregistration form. You can click on those links, copy the url address at the top, and post these forms on other websites that might be interested. To try to avoid double posting on some sites, please check to see if the post has been made already. We DO want to get this on as many sites as we possibly can.

I will post it on Q'tec's board, as well as BMJA's site, and it will be sent to Rausch Creek to put on their site as well.

It's a manual, so there is always that option.

I called AutoZone today, and the person I spoke with said they could test the alt and battery ON the vehicle. Their starter tester was broken. So I drove it up there, and walked in to ask about it. The manager tells me "not after dark. We can't go outside and do that stuff after it gets dark". I told him it would have been nice to have been told that when I called. What a bunch of (censored). I now, hate that place.

So I go out and remove the battery, and bring it in for someone else to test. He ran it on the machine and it said it was a bad battery. I almost bought a new one, but decided to wait, knowing I could get a better price, and not wanting to give them any money. I hate them. I called someone and asked about it, and they told me they weren't sure that tester would work the same on a dry cell battery, and it would be best to get a charger and see if that made a difference.

I picked up John's charger tonight, and a multimeter too. Putting the battery on the charger it read 0. Which is good right? The multimeter showed the battery at 11.14V as well. Should it be higher than that? Looking online I saw the battery should read 12.8 to 15.V while the vehicle is running. I have not tested it that way yet though, and the site didn't say what it should read out of the vehicle. Keeping in mind, I suck at electronics and have no idea what I'm doing. John suggested also connecting the negative terminal of the battery to the negative cable, and setting the multimeter between the positive terminal and the positive cable. (is that right John?) I did that, and the multimeter showed 11.10V. So does that mean I have a HUGE drain on the battery? That's with the key not even in the ignition, and nothing on. I have to have done that wrong, or I'm reading that wrong. Any help on my technique here would be appreciated.

If the battery is ok, should I have the alternator tested, or just hook up the multimeter to the cable the way I did (or the way someone tells me is the right way) and start pulling fuses to see if I can find where there might be a short?

    Or, any other suggestions?

That would be easier, I just worry about getting there, and not being able to start it again. But I guess if it breaks down, there's not too many places better than that to have it happen.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm going to take some time tonight (although I said that last night....) to check out all of the connections. If need be, I'll pull the battery, alternator and starter and run them up to Autozone. The guy there said they can test all of them at no charge. If something is bad, I'll replace it and hope that does it. But first I'll try and check all of the wiring and connections.

I replaced all the battery cables when I changed the battery. The old ones did constantly have corrosion on them, I was always cleaning them off. I put new cables, those felt things on the terminals, and covers on both posts as well, so the cables should definitely be good.

I'll look at the alternator connections tonight and see how they look. I don't have a way of testing the voltage coming out though.

I might take you up on the battery charger John, just to rule that out at least.

I just can't pay for a new $200 starter to find out that's not the problem.
