Looking to make a rear bumper for my '87 YJ. How do most aftermarket bumpers mount on this vehicle? Drill and bolt through the rear cross member or upper and lower "straps" that then drill and bolt to the frame?
Thanks.

Mostly they just mount through the existing holes in the rear cross member.
However, this area is prone to crack and break so there is a reenforcement plate that will
tie the bumper to the frame that you should get if you plan on using it for anything other
than looks.
These are for a Tj but you can get the idea
They came from this website

Thank you for the information.
I'll fabricate something similar.
a-z fabrication has some nice brackets with threaded holes that use studs to mount. it makes mounting the bumper very easy.
