John, WTF !! when did that happen?
it's been coming. the last week or two, i've been hearing a little purr or hum (like you might get the street-noise from knobby tires). i thought something might be wrong, but since i usually listen to my music a little loud, i ignored the sound thinking it was just my tires and i hadn't previously noticed the noise because of the music.
i should have trusted my gut feeling. i know the sounds my XJ makes, music or not. i also should have performed my pre-wheeling inspection checklist (which includes checking axle u-joints) and i would have discovered it then.
wheeling it and towing Branden just did it in.
