BBD's Tare down and update

  • We had a great day of wrenching on the YJ
If you have a short memory I blew the motor in my Jeep
So like any good Jeeper i'm upgrading from the 4banger to a 4.0ho.

To prepair for the mew motor and trans I needed to begin by renoving the front of my Jeep

    This morning's progress
    Battery Disconnected
    radiator drained
    Grill support removed
    Radiator fan shroud removed
    Radiator removed
    A/C condenser removed
    Auto tranny cooler removed.
Note: All hardware placed in bagged and labeled

    Head light wire harness disconnected
Note: All Elect. connections marked for location
    Front Grill removed
    Coolant and washer bottles removed
    Left Fender Removed
    Battery Removed
    Battery tray removed.
Note: the Battery tray has more hardware holding it on then the fender does.
    Elect distribution box disconnected
All AC lines unbolted from fender
    All OBA lines disconnected
    Right fender removed.
Note rite about now you ask yourself " AM I Mad! What Am I doing!

I now have clear Access to the motor.
    Next.
I placed a ratchet strap under the Tranny
Trans / Transfer case, skid removed
Drive shafts front and rear removed
    Transfer case shifter removed
Note: I was wondering if I had the 23 spline transfer case input or the 21 spline
After removing the Transfer Case I counted 23 Splines. ;)

    Enough for one day
    pick up & clean up

One more note: While I was under the Jeep I noticed the degree shim under my drivers side spring is loose and broken in half
Guess I need to remove them.

  • that's some great progress joe! sorry i couldn't make it by. i sat around this morning waiting for the buyers to stop by (they never did), swapped some tires around and then ran some errands. before i knew it the afternoon was practically over! did you manage to take any pictures? this would be an awesome writeup for others to benefit from.
    chris

p.s. i'd rather have a fender let loose on the trail than a battery :hmm:

  • It just started ticking badly and then just shut down
I later tried to restart it but had grinding and clanking gomming fron inside the motor.

Chris i didn't have a camara today Sorry no pics.

  • if you decide to pull the motor this week let me know so i can knock out two birds with one stone help you with the motor and finally pick up that soft top your holding for me.
