And also that apparently since 1993 the Grand Cherokee has always looked the same. How come they don't have any MJ fronts?

I have a 2000 Cherokee with 220k on it. Jeep was hit in the front and sounds like it has a tap. Probably best as a parts engine. Seeing if there is any interest. Engine is still in the vehicle and can be heard running.

I've run into a misfire issue before on Grand Cherokees with 4.0L's where the engine harness that wraps around the back side of the head gets worn through. Check for that.
Here's a pic of what I found

If that doesn't help I'd check to see if any wires are fudged up under that heat wrapping on your fuel rail.

I have a '92 Waggy in my yard. The interior is pretty much all still together. Was hit in the front and the whole drivetrain is gone. You're welcome to come scope it out for interior pieces if you want. The yard is at 624 Garasches Lane Wilmington DE 19801 called Two Guys Auto Parts.

Aluminum sucks. I went to Diamond State in Wilmington the other day with a Ford Ranger bed filled with aluminum for a whopping $63. Atleast it bought lunch and gas.

Guess this is why are work truck had it's Cat missing last year. Thieves love easy money. If it was a diesel cat I've been told those actually aren't worth that much. I had one brought to me from a friend that works at Waste Management so it came off a trash truck and the scrap guy told me $40. This thing was huge compared to the Honda one I was getting $250 for. I mean it was the size of a watermelon and apparently it didn't have many precious metals in it. So whatever thieves stole them probably didn't know the reason why catalytic converters are worth money. Size, in this instance, doesn't always matter.
-
Scrap yards aren't necessarily where you want to take them. A smelter is where all catalytic converters end up. I have a guy who comes to my yard once a month to buy any cats I have cut off vehicles in the yard. Problem is I haven't sold to him in over a year since prices have been down. Jeep cats can go from $80-$160. Really depends on size.

Hahaha I have fixed about a dozen of those bent control arm mounts. Why does that always happen? If you bend it back in shape do yourself a favor and weld a piece of flat metal between the two sides like a mini skid. Has always worked for me. Nice pictures, made me miss the place and wheeling so much.

Motor was seized, but luckily I found someone to buy the whole Jeep for $700. So no more headache for me.
-
Haha, the plan was to slap a motor in it before winter and sell it for cash at our car lot. Guess I'll have to just wait for the right opportunity to come around to stag a motor.
-
Yea I'm not really interested in pulling a motor in a yard without a forklift since a forklift is how I do it at my yard. Plus I don't think there would be a way to hear the thing run before pulling it if other people have "had at it" before me. I understand your point in cheap but I also don't want it to blow up a week later. I've found motors for $1700 in other yards around the area but for a vehicle that sells for $4500, I'd be in it $3500 before all is said and done. That's not a lot of profit for doing a motor swap like that. I do know its the same motor as the Dodge Dakota and Ram but the price is still looking too steep. Maybe

Just recently bought a 2002 Jeep Liberty with a blown motor and come to find out the engine is insanely priced used and hard to find. So this might become a parts vehicle. Is there any interest in parts off of it? Its silver color sport edition with 136k on the odometer. Or does anyone have an idea where to find a motor for not an astronaut price? Or does anyone want to buy the whole thing outright and build a diesel crawler?

I agree. Most of them just thought the pump would get hot from running for a while and that's why it would shut off.

I had a customer's 1994 Grand Cherokee 5.2L for 2 days with a stalling issue. He had taken it to 2 other shops with both saying fuel pump. Here is the main issue he had. Cold the engine would start and run fine. Once up to temperature it would drive along and shut off or once it was shut off it would not start up again unless you held the accelerator to the floor which once you let off the accelerator it would die completely. So at that point I though Intake Air Controller, or as Chrysler calls it Air Intake Control Motor, on the back of the throttle body. So I replaced this. Same issue. Then as I was just looking at every value I had I noticed the scanner was telling me the engine was 97*F and the gauge was reading 200*F. On this motor they are 2 separate sensors. So I replace the temperature sensor reading 97*F for the ECU and it fired right up, drove and ran beautifully.
I am posting this mainly because in my attempt to find answers EVERY single forum had listed:
Crank sensor (granted that is common)
TPS
IAC
Cam Position Sensor
Oxygen sensor
MAP sensor
and the last resort Replace the ECUNot one had this. So I hope if anyone is having a similar issue they will get readings from all the sensors before replacing parts.
I should probably explain that the engine being at operating temperature and the ECU thinking it is still cold meant the fuel trims were all wrong sending too much fuel to the engine which stalled it out unless giving it full throttle and thereby enough air to run, but once you let off the throttle the overload of fuel would shut it off.
-
I don't know if that was really so much of a shot in the dark, its fairly common on Jeeps. Also crank position sensors. And exhaust manifolds.
-
I may have one at my shop I was going to use in my 14 bolt build but bought one with a disc brake conversion instead. The tube has a couple holes from where I had to cut my welds off for the truss. $100 if you're interested.
-
If you don't find a vacuum leak then on the back of the throttle there is the Intake Air Controller. Might be worth taking the throttle body completely off. Not difficult, only four 13mm bolts. Clean it real well. But I would lean towards a vacuum leak first like everyone else
-
That seems to be the problem. I think I'll stick to stock stuff then.
-
No I took the axles from a CJ that had a 304. Mine has a 258. I'm really leaning toward just getting the one piece axles and being done with it.
-
I threw a narrow track AMC20 with 1 piece axles out a few years ago. Nobody wanted it.Haha that's terrible. What are people upgrading their CJ axles to? I had Wagoneer axles a few years ago and sold them.
