I was very happy to see a non-tragic outcome here. However, as more details of what took place were released, these folks were REALLLLLY fucking lucky. Only by possessing the most basic survival skills, far below what anyone heading out in that type situation should have, was this group able to keep 4 kids from dying. The adults surely deserved whatever they got, but certainly not the kids. My Wife give me some crap for all I bring on even a normal trip to Upstate NY, but there is a method to it. What exactly are you going to do if you did actually have an emergency, or get stuck in a snowstorm and unable to get somewhere safe? The lack of planning is a failure of common sense and just more folks assuming that someone else will take care of them, that they don't have to be responsible for their own well-being. I sure hope this guy learned something to better protect and care for his loved ones, but unfortunately I doubt that was the case...

Wait, if he brought the appropriate gear and whatnot, he wouldn't have been able to fit all those people in the Jeep, got it... ;)

Redneck ram is hydro assist from west Texas offroad. I was going to port and tap the new box I have but they offer a swap out program with a new higher output pump, ram, lines, Heims, and rebuilt box with stronger sector shaft for $600 bucks. The money saved by DIYing my own hydro assist doesn't outweigh the ease of installing their kit IMO.

IIRC someone around here had a bad experience with them. Sometimes you do get what you pay for. Just make sure before you buy...

I am surprised to hear of Currie not standing behind their product. My TJ system was excellent and Currie was very responsive when I had questions or needed parts/tools/support.

When is comes to windshields, In my minds spending the extra money on OEM would be like choosing between a parts store airbag and one from the manufacturer.ll

There are only a handful of windshield manufacturers (like batteries) that simply rebrand based on the client. Given the windshield angle, and propensity to crack (even without a rock or debris hit) it seems very foolish to spend another $100 - $150 for absolutely no additional protection or value. And FWIW, based on personal experience, Safelite is a complete rip-off providing the same windshields as other suppliers at significant mark up. My first and last Safelite windshield on the TJ lasted 2 months before developing a mysterious crack without any damage taken. At least it got me through inspection...

Are you looking to replace the factory one, upgrade it or just install a net new small sub? The factory one is 2ohm which is not typical and difficult to replace with a different model. Also I believe it's actually 6" which is a non-standard size. If you are going net new 6.5" is more common.

When I was upgrading my system it was far better to go with a Kicker 6.5" on a new single channel amp as it all fit very nicely. The factory setup is garbage but I am sure Keith is already very aware of the limitations of the factory sub amp and setup.

So another update on the trailer and build. First, I went and picked up a BajaRack. Awesome product, very high quality, and looks great.

The new OzTrail 375-OR is now installed on the trailer and I absolutely love it. The bed over the trailer is a full queen with mattress. The adjacent room is about 7' x 7' and the sunroom is about 8' by 10'. All ceiling heights are approximately 7' so there is plenty of room to move around. The setup is extremely flexible in that there are very large windows/doors throughout that can be secured for night or cold, but let light in during the day. I also half-assed some LED reels around the setup but I have all the parts to do a semi-permanent system with 4 zones/dimmers, wiring through an auxiliary battery, and charged by the truck. I also have the ability to power it all via AC when I am at an electric-equipped campsite. The oil radiator was there for my 1 year old, didn't want him getting chilly at night, turns out our concerns were unwarranted as the tent is warm and his jammies are also. :)

    So the setup...

While not as easy and quick to setup as the old tent, it is still quite fast and even heavier and more waterproof material. I am very impressed with it and would buy it again. I was able to keep the 32" tires and still achieve a 43" rail height, which is nearly perfect for the tent install (I undid the SOA). The installation of the tent was simply 2 heavy hinges and 2 latch mechanisms, 16 bolts total. I still have to install the included lift struts and work on the trailer, but it is very functional and worked well for our test weekend. The bed of the trailer is accessible from a hatch under the mattress and the trailer tailgate can be accessed right from the sunroom with the removal of a small panel. So all in all, it is a very convenient setup. The campsite was at the Patapsco State Park - Hollofield Area and is only 30 minutes from out house. :)

That would be great if you could send me a contact number, I will pass it along to my buddy. Not sure how he will feel about the 2.5L but its worth considering.

As the title says, I am looking for a 2 door 5spd Manual XJ for a buddy. If you have one or know of one please let me know ASAP. Similar specced rigs could have potential as well. Buyer is ready to move on one...

Not sure where that reference is from but I suspect they are talking about true offroad stuff. For stability, and to not trash the suspension, need to be careful on the speed when loaded. I can attest to this with my trailer as even with the shocks, it can get a little squirrely offroad if you are going too fast. Plus, being military, guaranteed it would be severely overloaded with some dude dragging it 60 mph behind a Humvee. At least they can use the "told you so" defense when it is on its lid... :)

Could you please provide some pics of the rig? Hard top, soft top, or both? Since it has 166k miles, does it have any history of drive train issues (engine/transmission/transfer case/axle repairs or replacements) or is it in need of any repairs that you are aware of? Your statement about how you might "part it out" and the description of "a bit rough" could lead people to believe that it has some serious issues that are not worth fixing. I would like to understand specifically why you attached these statements to your post. I am at work so calling doesn't work for me currently. PM me if you want but I expect others will find the answers to these questions and/or pictures of the rig pertinent. It is my sincere hope that that my questions were worded politely and clearly enough to not create any misunderstandings or "issues".

Instead of lowering the trailer... you might be able to use an ATV winch to compress the suspension. or even a lever actuated system to drop the suspension.

While that definitely could work, the whole reason the trailer sits as high as it does was for when I had 35's on it that matched the Jeep. Now that I am hauling it with the Tacoma, 285x75r16 is the max tire size I would want (current Tacoma tire) and that easily fits with the axle on top of the leaf. And since I have a set of four 265x70r16's which are the same size as my Tacoma spare, that will likely be my end option after I move the axle back. Lowering it also gives me the added benefit of the parking brake brackets aligning properly and making the brake usable again. :) So in the end, I will switch out to 6 lug hubs and likely use my factory Tacoma wheels (with some gunmetal paint) and factory tires, have a spare, and 2 "extra" tires for future use.

FYI, looks like a decent deal here... I have no affiliation with the seller, just posting from the M101 user group. The lid and tent I am selling would fit directly on this with the only work necessary being to weld on the 3 hinges and bolt 2 latches up to the trailer.

Bump again. Too high of a price? Wrong time of the year? Too ugly? Make an offer - I'm a motivated seller ;D

Bump for a great Jeep. IMHO you just have to find the right buyer as I did. "Nice" Jeeps that are built well are a tough sell because most folks looking for "built" want trail rigs and are hesitant to pay the extra money for "nice" when they will mainly be abusing them offroad. Catch 22 really. You will find someone that appreciates the value of what you have there...
