SWR reading

    Well I tried to cal my cb antenna. I can't get it below 2.6 on 4 and 2.1 on 40. according to what I read, my antenna is running "short". I am running a 3ft firestick on a spring and bracket behind drivers side light. I have the adj. knob all the way out. would another spring help, or a bigger antenna. Any thoughts?

    I deff have a grounding problem. When I hook the meter up, I am getting continuity between the mounting stud and my ground bolt. I moved the hard wear around to look like the the first pic on the firestick page. Not sure. I am thinking I might need a nylon spacer between the coax ring and my mount. :shrug:

    The first pic on your link illustrates the same configuration as what Chris posted (the correct way).


    You already have all the correct parts indicated in the picture you posted, you just have to arrange it correctly.


    Make it look like this:


    I made it look like that picture. But I am still getting the hot touching the ground.

    take the spring off and try, also maybe try a differnet coaxal

    Will try with out the spring. I got the hot and ground part figured out. But I am still getting high readings. I will try over the weekend. Thanks for everyones help. :up:

    Well I had off tonight so I played around. Got the base grounded properly, and was able to turn it down. Here is what I have for readings: Ch.1--1.5, Ch.4--1.4, Ch.19--1.2, Ch. 40--1.7. Thanks everyone (esp. Chris) for the help.

    With the spring...THe bracket was powdercoaded. I had to file down the underside so that the ground part of my firering touched ground. Funny how the simple stuff make you go crazy.. :rolleyes:
