    Delaware fishing report

With the weekend forecast calling for unseasonably warm weather, conditions should be ideal for boaters and shore fishermen. Ocean boaters are seeing a few more tog on the inshore wrecks and reef structure as water temperatures increase. Reef Site 10 produced for anglers fishing with Captain Chet aboard the Little Angler last week, with tog up to 7Í pounds caught. Reports of keeper rockfish are starting to come in from boaters working lumps inside the three-mile line off Ocean City, according to Sue Foster at Oyster Bay Tackle. Trolling under flocks of feeding birds has been the top tactic, with Mann’s Stretch 25s and 30s listed as the most effective lures. A few stripers were caught by anglers fishing the Indian River Inlet jetties this week, according to catch reports passed along by Capt. Bert Adams at Hook’em and Cook’em. The action is just getting started, but should improve steadily as water temperatures increase in the inlet and back bays. Fishermen trying for inlet linesiders have been using a mix of bucktails dressed with Gulp! Alive, plastic shad bodies, flies rigged with inline sinkers to run deep and casting spoons. Flounder topped the weekly report from Rick Willman at Rick’s Bait and Tackle, with the most consistent action coming on frozen smelt in the deeper water of the VFW Slough. Flatties also responded to bucktails and Spec Rigs tipped with minnows and Gulp! Swimming Mullets and jigged close to the bottom in the deeper holes and sloughs of the back bays. Tautog provided some action for shore-bound anglers fishing the rocks along the Indian River Inlet. According to catch reports passed along by Clark Evans at Old Inlet Bait and Tackle, the best way to score on tog in the inlet is to fish the cracks and crevices of the jetty rocks with green crabs. There also have been reports of a few blackfish being landed by fishermen baiting with one-inch Gulp! Alive Mole Crab and Peeler Crab baits in the copper penny and molt color patterns. Surf fishermen are catching a few stripers, but the action has generally been on the slow side.
