If installing this into a current woodburning fireplace, would you have to install a new chimney liner?

yes, it would need to have a 6" liner installed also. its not difficult to do and the liner is readily available at any stove shop or Lowes.

If you are considering an insert, I say do it. I saved literally thousands of $$$ in the less than two years I've had mine. It could be 6°F outside and I'd be in shorts and a t-shirt in my living room at 78°F. My thermostat is in the living room, so it is always satisfied and the boiler never comes on. It can be a challenge distributing the heat to other parts of the house, but the savings are unbelievable. -

I have been contemplating putting one in, but my thermostat is also in the same room as the fireplace and I'm nervous about other rooms in the house struggling for heat because the thermostat doesn't kick the heater on.
