00' XJ Front Speaker Problems

When I bought this jeep the front speakers did not work and when I installed a new head unit and speakers they still did not function. I decided to explore YouTube and I found a dude who said to remove the door boot to access the wiring harness and repair what would most likely be a broken wire. Fixed what looked to be the broken wires but it still didn't work on either side. I was told by a friend that I should run independent speaker wire from the head unit to each speaker. Is this a good idea and if so, where would I start running it from?
