Hey,
My name is Jon and I just purchased a 1998 XJ. I bought it as a little project to learn and get my foot into the door. I got it reasonably cheap and now to get it to pass inspection I am in the middle of replacing the head.... fun fun. but I am up for any help and am always looking to do modifications to it. I do have a few questions about it such as what is the "Part time" light when I put it in 4x4 HI, and what are some of the first mods people do to these?

Welcome. Mods to your XJ would be a perfect topic to ask Whatevah about. He had a nice XJ.
The part time light that you see indicates that you are in 4wd. Since you choose when you are in 4wd it is a part time system unlike a full time system that would be more like an All Wheel Drive.
