I am looking to buy home brewing equipment. Fermenting buckets, syphons, boiling pot. Pretty much starting from scratch. Not interested in a Mr. Beer kit...
WTB: Home brewing kit

there are many online places that sell a beginner kit. Northern Brewer being one of my favorites. there is also a store called HowDoYouBrew in Newark by Deerfield golf course that had a great selection and inventory (priced a little higher, but no shipping or tax so it almost evens out)
personal opinion...start with new stuff if you think you are going to be serious about it. a used, scratched up bucket can be hard to sanitize which can ruin a good batch of beer. learning the right way from the start will take some of the pressure off.

x2 on Northern Brewer or a local store. It really isn't that expensive to start out. Plus once you get the feel for it you can tailor the setup to your needs and space.
Lowes sells food grade buckets for fermenters that are super cheap so if one gets ruined you aren't upset. The big expense is a brewpot, but all you need to find is a keg left over after a party and hack the top out

Thanks for the tips guys! I have done a few batches with friends and was looking to venture out on my own. Looking to put together a kit here and there. Good point about the scratches, hadn't thought about that. Figured I would try here first to see if anyone had a kit they weren't using anymore and looking to unload it.

I'm looking into home brandy making myself...
-
All good suggestions...personally I'd wait until the next time one of the larger places has a decent sale or keep an eye on Craigslist as I see homebrew stuff on there regularly. To be perfectly honest I think the only thing that remains out of my original kit is the capper and carboy that I subbed for the bucket (I liked being able to keep an eye on things). Make sure to size things appropriately...I fought with brewing in a marginally sized stockpot that we had on hand before finally picking up a 40qt one and combined with the valve/thermo/sight glass I added I wish I did it sooner. Good luck with it, makes a great hobby.

The guy screwed me over big time. Had plans to meet him on Thursday to buy it and he sold it to a guy who lives closer today (Wednesday). Told him to hold it and I would pay asking price.
