Hi, I am looking to replace my Dana 53 in the back of my 1962 Willys pickup. It is offset to the passenger side. Does anyone have a Dana 44 for sale that might work? Any conversion advice would also be well received
Looking for a Dana 44 to put in rear of a 1962 Willys Pickup

The off centered bit restricts you. Look for a '78-ish Wagoneer. Some of them had the off centered Dana 44. Might as well get the front too to make it open knuckle.
-
i have a couple 44's from early 70's but they are centered.not sure if it would be better to try to adapt another t/c to center it up. just a thought.

A Dana 20 should swap in place of the Dana 18 you currently have. They are essentially the same housing. The Dana 20 housing has a thicker wall and the output shaft is centered.
I used a Dana 20 housing when I rebuilt my Dana 18 t-case.

sorry...i love willys pickups

A guy on craigs list has a 1976-79 quadtratac model 20 rear axle. I responded asking what the gear ratio was and what it came with. Would this work for me? Thanks again for everyone's input.
The only pictures I have are on facebook. Not sure how to show a picture here...

that rear is an AMC 20.not the best choice unless you upgraded to 1 piece axles.

Weren't the Wagoneer AMC20s thicker walled tubes than the CJ AMC20s?
You used to have one of those in back of your garage Jeepman. Of course that was a few years ago.

yea,had several over the years.only problem with one of them is the width.

When I first got my 62 wagon it had the stock d44 that was off centered and I had a dana 20 transfercase in it and I had no vibes with the offcenter drive shaft
-
I swapped a matching set of dana 44 from a 70s scout 2 into my wagon I know the feont will work for you but the rear axle I think is alittle wider I will pull out my book from willys America they have a good little right up on common axle swaps
-
HI, what did you find out about the rears? How wide was the D44? Thanks Wicked for the info...
-
The willys pickip rear is wider, wms to wms is 57" so you need to use a chevy truck or blazer rear axle or a ford 9" out of a staition wagon or van both sets of axles are about 56" wms to wms

Thanks for that info! Now I have a better idea what to look for. I think I just toasted my T90. It keeps popping out of 3rd gear. I saw the syncronizers were looking chewed up on the one end. Do you guys think that could be the culprit?
as far as a chevy or blazer rear, what year range should I be looking for?
