Looking to upgrade the garage and add some air tools. Looking for something in the 25 Gallon range or better, electric not gas. If anyone is looking to upgrade, or otherwise part with one give me a shout.
Thanks
Jamie

I recommend you go with an oil lube compressor versus an oilless. The oilless ones are sooooooo noisy in a small attached garage and a 25 gal one will cycle a lot with air tools.

Thanks for the insight, I'll keep that in mind. I'd definitely like a larger unit, but I have to balance that with cost.
If I were to go back and buy again , I would never buy a oiless comp again. Dont get me wrong, It works great, pretty fast, reliable good recovery. Bit its so loud. The con to oil type is they are more expensive. The comparison is like a 2 stroke vs 4 stroke. A used oil type might fetch you the best of both worlds. That said Craigslist has a plethora of them. If you don't mind the noise much, a oiless is fine for casual garage use. Shoot for something in the 150 PSI / 30 + gal / SCFM at 90 psi: 3.8, is decent recovery
This is pretty much what I have.
I hoisted my 30/6.5 Craftsman oil-less into the storage area above my garage. It's strapped to the front wall over the garage door, plumbed into a retracting reel in the garage, and plugged into a switched circuit. I flip a switch on the wall and 5 minutes later am in business. I can still hear it but the difference is very significant.
-sorry about going off-topic, but I felt it may help you determine if you need to go with a cheaper/louder model over an expensive/quieter model. I bought mine used from another DeJA member about 9 years ago for $100.

I'm wondering if this would be a good setup for me. I have a storage space above the garage and I get really tired of how loud the compressor is in the garage.
Thanks for all the info....I like the idea of hoisting it about the garage doors as well. Have to see what I end up with. Since everyone in the DEJA community seems content to hold on to their compressors I just reached out about one on CL.
I notice the CL ad says the compressor is 240v - is your garage good for that?
It could be.....I was raised by a contractor so installing a new circuit and outlet is well within my skills. Just have to make sure I have room in the breaker box when I get home.
That's very cool. I think the average person wouldn't be able do that nor would the average homeowner already have a 240v plug in their garage.
I think that's probably why this one hasn't sold yet. But the skills definitely come in handy.
Does the size of the compressor seem realistic for general home/garage use? Hoping the first project will be to Raptor the interior of the TJ.
It's fine for home/garage use. I sprayed a tub liner into my TJ with my 30 gallon Craftsman and it had no problem keeping up.
If you do put it in the attic, consider an automatic drain for it. Going up there to do it manually won't happen often enough.
3hp, 30 gal, oil-filled, 10.5 cfm @ 40 psi. $100. Older but seems solid. Now I just have to talk the wife into letting me fiddle with the electrical system at the house.
