Back in the Jeep Family!

  • With the help of Andrew(BlueJ) and Artie(Jeepartie) I picked up my new to me 1984 CJ-7 from Mike(Turtle) today.

She defintely needs some love, but I have big plans for her. No ground up restos or anything of that sort, Just a good, built, trail beater.

Here's a pic as she sits in my garage.....

Now, just have to get the parts and help to get this thing out on the trails!
I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions in the near future. Looking to go SOA with YJ springs, regear, lock and 35's. :peace:

  • Needs some love? :bsflag: That thing looks nicer than MINE!

Looks good. The first thing I'd do is get one piece shafts for the rear.

  • hey, Id be glad to help you out with any thing I can. I had a 81 CJ-7 and fixed just about everything on it before I sold it.. turtle once told me its my fault he's into jeeps.. somewhere I got a factory service manual and a bunch of little parts... including the socket for the u-joints its a crazy multipoint... let me know and welcome to the Jeep family..

  • Instead of one piece axles, why not go with a full floater kit?

Mainly because it's almost 10 times the cost!

Need to get it running first. Need to get the Carb from Mike/Ed and also need to install the T5 tranny. :hmm:

  • 10 x the cost of what? What are your plans?

The one piece shafts are only around 200, compared to the $1000 bucks of the Warn Rear Full Floater.

I'll see how the one pc shafts hold up to the 35's and locker! :spinrhead:

    Joe

  • joe you'll be fine on 35's with one piece axles. the full floater is nice but it is a hassle. ask tom, his leaks no matter how many times he has tried to fix it.
what other CJ stuff do you need. I might have something for you. I have some rims.

Speaking of rims...what are those that come gray/silver like that? Or are they previous owner-painted?

    DrJ

Previous owner painted! They're just stock CJ Wagon Wheels spray painted silver.

  • It's amazing how much a little rattle can paint job can do to improve the looks of something.

Did you try putting Speedi-sleeves on the axle where the axle seal rides? I did that on my passenger side and it appears to be working.

Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself.
