St. Patrick's Day Parade Cancelled
For only the second time in its 32-year history, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Wilmington scheduled for Saturday, March 17, has been cancelled due to the weather.
The parade organizing group, the Irish Club of Delaware, informed the City late Saturday night that the parade is being cancelled because of icing conditions and below freezing temperatures expected at Noon on Saturday when the parade was to have begun.
There is no make-up day for the parade, so we will unfortunately lose it completely for this year.
In other weather related news, City Public Works crews continue around the clock operations to plow city streets, and then apply a mixture of salt and sand. Road conditions are not good as temperatures remain below freezing. Ice/sleet is causing hazardous travel. Please use caution when traveling. Public Works Operations Director Al Ballard says City teams will work well into Saturday afternoon to clear, salt and sand City Streets.
