I bought a 3" Black Diamond Lift and shackles that was going to go on a '79 CJ7. That never occurred. I now have a '93 YJ with no lift and am starting to look at different lift options. Eventhough the Black Diamond lift is stated to be designed for a CJ, would anyone know if it would fit onto a YJ instead? Just by looking at the leaf springs and shock mounts, they don't seem to differ from the CJ to the YJ. However, assumptions usually get people into trouble. In theory, the lift should be compatible, correct? I would rather try and use this lift rather than having to purchase another lift package.
YJ Lift Compatibility

you may want to measure the width of the springs. my understanding is CJ and YJ springs are different widths.
-
yea the yj springs are 2.5 in. wide i believe the cjs are only 2in...
-
one this one width is different, that why cj guys buy yj springs for there cjs.

did you just call me stupid lol

did you just call me stupid loli think he did. and I read it on the internet so it must be true

You're probably only need YJ shackles up front. Since the lift was designed to put YJ width springs on a CJ, the Black Diamond front shackles will be narrow at the top. My guess is that it should work fine on a YJ.

hey hey i agreed with you so i must be stupid tooooooooo ??? -
Thanks for the assistance. I really don't want to have to go out and purchase another lift kit if this one will be compatible. I'll have to measure the width of the lift springs to verify. Guess I should have clarified, but didn't think about it earlier. The shackles are the Greasable ones from Currie. I don't remember if they have any lift to them or not. I am thinking about replacing both front and rear Shackles since I purchased four (4) of them. Also, at what lift height does one start considering putting in a dropped pitman arm and dropping anything else?
-
usually around 4 inchs.. youll need a drop pitman arm..

Thanks for the assistance. After speaking with the fine folks from Quadratec at the Jeep Show on Saturday (blast of a show, BTW ), they advised me that the CJ lift won't work on a YJ without doing a boatload of mods (something about relocating brackets for leaf springs and getting adapters for the shocks). So I am going to try and sell the lift that I have (which is posted in the for sale board), or return it to Quadratec and get a lift that will be more suited to the YJ. I'm still thinking Black Diamond 3 1/2". However, I have skyjacker products bolted to my ZJ and I kind of like them as well. So I am kind of torn.

If you go to the old gallery and look under my screen name there may be some pics there. Most of them are of wheeling trips and therefore pics of other people's jeeps There may be like 2 good pics of my jeep in there.

Looks good... I like the way it looks. I've decided to go with the Black Diamond 3.5" lift. We'll see where it goes from there.
-
sry for the delay in the pictures.

No problem. Now I have a real good idea as to what my YJ will look like lifted after all of these pics I've seen. Good lookin' YJ. I have the same exterior/interior color combinations as well. Now I'm starting to really get excited about this...
