coolant drain plug

  • How do you remove a coolant drain plug? Is there a special tool nothing in my tool chesta fit it. I need to remove it to put in a manual temp sensor its for a 258 4.2L

  • do you mean the radiator petcock? I thought they just twisted off if you turn it by hand (or with a crescent wrench/pliers). Of course, they often break when you remove them. How about drilling and tapping somewhere, thermostat housing or water pump inlet tube? I dunno what locations are feasible on the 258, just tossing out ideas. :)

  • no I mean on the side of the block. It is a square shape slot like a socket but no socket fits it. Thanks for the reply

  • Use a ratchet extension with no socket on it. It will either be a ½" drive or 3/8" drive.
