*** Burn Ban Currently In Effect at Rausch Creek ***

  • As usual, a few bad apples....

You know the term "Tread Lightly" applies to everything outdoors!

The bad apples are only partly to blame. I wouldn't be surprised if they would have issued a burn ban no matter what given the recent conditions.

Low recent rain levels, low humidity, and wind make for perfect conditions for the spread of fire. This area doesn't do any controlled burns that I know of so that makes for even better conditions.

  • It's bad I just got back on sta from a brush fire did 12hrs on the French Creek Fire Wed nite and 14hrs on Mon the day it started. My crew cut 2mi of fire brake by hand Wed nite. This was the biggest brush fire in dist 17 since the 1800s

  • The whole country is going through this right now. Just got back from Vegas and the casino's with rooftop lounges were told to shut them down by the Fire Marshall (and most likely their insurance companies). There were wind gusts up over 50 miles an hour at times. On my way back I had a layover in Kansas City. Met a fellow Jeep enthusiast (thanks to my handy DEJA t-shirt) who told me their having a huge problem in the plains and the Ozarks that most of the parks for the legal wheeling have put a temporary hold on any camping due to the high winds. They've gotten some rain so it isn't as dry as it is here, but the high winds are almost always a concern when you consider cinders blowing around.
