I just ordered a lift for my xj and was thinking about putting bfg a/t on it. A couple people have told me they suck in mud, that the tread gets clogged with mud immediately and they don't perform. Anyone have any experience with this?
Bfg all terrains bad in mud?

Seen it happen a few times. They are a great tire though. If you want a tire to perform in mud buy a mud tire. Most all terrains will turn to slicks in real mud.

It's more of an on road vehicle. It will see a lot of sand because I surf fish a lot but since there's nowhere to legally mud around here I don't take it in mud often. I have a place I can go and not get in trouble but I don't mud often

Main reason I was gonna go for AT over MT is noise level. My dog isn't extremely comfortable in the car so I wanna keep it as comfortable as I can for him. Not too worried about the economic side of it (AT lasting longer, maybe slightly better mpg) as I didn't buy something with a gas guzzling 4.0 to save money

Almost all of the all terrain tires are not good in mud. The best "all around" tire I've seen is the duratrak from good year. I've never run them personally, but have heard plenty of customer feed back on them, and it's all positive

It still blows my mind how quiet my Dick Cepek Mud Country tires have been. I've only had them on for 2,500 road miles now so I can't talk to how they wear but at a cost of $272 each I really won't complain about much.

Just read great reviews on the quadratrak but unfortunately they aren't made in 32x11.50 which is the max tire size the lift calls for (without trimming)

Is this on a YJ? What lift?

MOST mud tires are quiet when new. My KM2's were real quiet when I got them but as they wear, the will sing you to sleep on the highway! LOL
You have to decide what you want. I ran BFG A/T on a lot of vehicles, and while I tried a few other AT's at times, I always came back to BFG's. Heck I still run them on my truck. If you only see occasional mud, then I'd go BFG AT's. You won't regret them in the snow, sand or dirt. -

Look at the General Grabber AT2, It blows the BFG out of the water traction wise... Best AT I have ever driven in the snow and road manners are very good as well. Cheaper than BFG too

It's on an xj shadyluke. I'm putting this roughy country 4.5" lift...

I swear by Cooper Tires. I have the AT3's on the truck. I had the STT's on my wrangler, the S/T on my old ranger and they have a new line S/T Max that would probably suit you well. I usually get tires from a small shop called All About Tires in Toughkenomon, PA and always get the best price. They will do it while you wait and its usually a couple cute girls in the shop. Can't beat it.
