  • Thanks for the correction, that's why you're the "Trail Boss"

The day started out cloudy and cool, but the sun arrived and warmed things up nicely. With the exception of Bob (hookedonthebay) and I, everyone else was first or second timer or breaking in a new rig, so this was going to be a DeJA 101. We made our way to 1a to warm up and then hit Trail 2 at the Pole Line, everyone did fine on that trail. Quentin (Q&TLJ) high centered on the dirt hill on 2, so that was a good time to demonstrate a winch recovery. We picked up Trail 4 and exited at Yellow Jacket and ran The green O Trail the Grand Cherokee quit running but they got her started again. JoAnn took over Driving my YJ and we headed through O to C to E and took the Trail to the West Property at the gate. We played a little on the Hills on the Power Line and then headed down to pick up Trail 11 and break for lunch at Big Rocks. After lunch we ran Trail 10a and headed for the Blue (at least on the map), but a little more Black crossing of Rock Creek. We decided we could get everyone across then run a short section of Trail 13a past Otters and out onto Trail 11. Quentin broke a weld on his step rail which we strapped back in place and with some good driving, spotting and rock stacking the stock YJ made it across without a strap or winch cable. By now everyone had passed the "101" and made the Purple section of Trail 13 look easy. We made our way back to the East Property, Ran the 3 Hills on the Pole Line and back to the Comp area for some pics and play. Crystal was backing her new silver JKU out of a photo opp on the comp course and got her teetering on two wheels which brought out a strap to the roll bar and an "Oh Sh*t" moment to end her first riding experience. BTW the "Sweet Fire" wings and the IPA are still great at O'Neils!

  • Well now I know where we were (kinda)... I will have to look at a map and see if I can retrace our route. I didn't know we were supposed to post ride reports in a separate thread... if an admin wants to move mine that's just fine with me. Thanks for guiding and instructing and generally keeping us all together.

    I used to think about buying a fuel-efficient vehicle.<br />Then I remembered I have a Jeep and can drive over sh*t.

  • Special Thanks to everyone for making my kids day an adventure and not leaving my dumb butt stuck out there. They really did have a blast, they would have liked to see more mud puddles oh well still had fun, Randy thanks for being the resource that you are just watching you and Bob helped me to learn a lot. Bob thanks for being my follow behind trail tow rig incase I needed AAA. Bonnie and Crystal made my daughters feel that it was okay for them to be there, thanks. And as for Quinton what can I say except you are awesome, Quinton escorted me home just in case anything happened again with my ZJ. I have been around the world with many different types of people and I usually can tell a truly "Good people" group when I find them and with just Jason friendly handshake to the offer to tow me up that second hill by Bob I can say I have found a good group of people to be part of. It was a true pleasure to be with looking forward to it again.

  • John, Glad you guys had a good time. I have found as you have that this club has a bunch of good people in it. I was in a similar situation last year, my jeep lost it's clutch while in Ocean City MD, the guys and girls in the club that were there saw to it that I got back to PA to get my truck and trailer so I could get the jeep home. There is a "leave no man behind mentality" here, and that is hard to come by in this day and age. I look forward to hitting the trails with you again, it was cool to have a ZJ in the group.

DEJA has always been a family, and I'm proud to be part of it! :) I remember JeepSahara giving Daddanlena a ride on his trailer to Levittown from RC (blown D35 shaft), and JeepSahara lived near me!

Gone- 2012 JK Rubicon with stuff. Long gone- Long-arm 2001 Cherokee with stuff.

  • glad you had fun...this is why after 12 years, i still call DEJA home. we may mislead you across some trails that are a little out of your comfort zone....but it's only kinky the first time LOL.

  • It was a great day. If you're a nubie don't let the trail choices we made intimidate you. After guiding this group for the first half of the day and seeing the abilities of the rigs and drivers, I felt comfortable making the crossing of Rock Creek and running the short section of Trail 13. If that was not so we would have backtracked a bit and followed a lower trail. That's one of the differences between a 101 with our club and the one RC puts on. They normally have a large group and cannot customize the ride as easily.
