Trout Season 2015

  • Anyone going down opening day this Saturday? I'll be down there and will be attempting to take 3 young kids ages 5, 5 and seven! :o :o :o

We're planning on going upstream from where I normally fish. We'll @ the waterfalls south of Hopkins road where the pump station is. We'll more than likely stay on the creek's west side opposite of the pump station so that the boys don't have so far to trek and can fish off the bank. Anyone is welcome to join us if you'd like. It'll be me, the 3 boys, my pop, his friend and maybe my brother and my nephew. I'm going to bring a few creature comforts such as coffee, my pack stove and a few small surprises!

  • My brother and I did some hiking yesterday to scout out our usual fishing holes. Nothing has dramatically changed from last year. A few banks have eroded some while other places have built u some sandbars.... I love being out in the woods!

Taking three young kids? So you're not going for the trout, you're going for a relaxing day of bailing, rigging, untangling hooks\lines and grumbling while the kids hook you? Good luck! I won't be out Saturday, did manage to hit Silver Run on Wednesday afternoon and catch more in a couple of hours than I did all of last season (which was a whopping 4 times for me). Looks pretty and I won't ask you to give away a spot but what area is that? Hope you have a fun and successful trout day!

  • Totally forgot to post up results! We had a blast! The boys caught 4 total and we had some fine eating for dinner.

  • What lucky kids! I had a blast when I was a kid going fishing with my dad and grandfather. Even better since my property bordered a creek with a lot of sunfish and some bass. I could go fishing whenever I wanted... I caught a lot of dinners. :) Every kid should have that chance.

Agreed! As far back as I can remember, I remember going fishing with my dad and brothers. Pop taught us how to tie our knots, string a pole, cast, bait the hook (ugh, I HATE helgamites!) We had tons of places to fish in VA but the most memorable place was down on the New River. We'd wade out and catch smallies, carp, cats... The kids are a bit too young yet to allow them to walk over to Becks Pond by themselves but we'll be increasing our frequency in trips as the weather gets nicer. I took them over to Cabelas and bought them new poles and some tackle before our trip. I think my oldest is addicted to fishing already! I can't tear him away from watching Jeremy Wade on Rivermonsters. He sits there watching in complete awe saying every 30 seconds "Daddy, did you see that fish!"... okay so do I but that's not a bad thing! :8) Cabela's is known amongst them as "The Fish Store"

Meh, it's no big secret... it's White Clay Creek down behind the UD campus. Tons of people use that area for fishing, running, hiking, biking, "extra-curricular" activities.... Couple of years ago, I was alone down there fishing at those falls when a couple walked down. They walked across the falls, decided that they were "in the mood" and proceeded to put on a show. What they found out afterwards was that I wasn't the only audience member in attendance. I thought that I had caught a glimpse of something on the other bank opposite of them but wasn't sure what it was. A DNREC officer was there and ended up escorting them back up to their vehicles! He was nice enough to let them finish and walk back across the top of the falls before he made his presence known. I'm glad I caught a few fish so that the day wasn't totally wasted.... :innocent:

  • I believe that the stocking is over but you can still catch them here and there. There's also small panfish and even a few smallmouth bass here and there. After work, I'll probably head down towards the end of the week and a few times next week. You're more than welcome to join us if you can.
